I just price matched it to Staples but they charge $14 shipping so that killed the deal, they would PM no problem
I think you just have bad luck with hard drives. I can't remember when the last time I had a hard drive failure in my own systems (and I have a bunch of computers, some with up to 5 hard drives of various brands - Maxtor, WD, Seagate, Samsung). A friend of mine used to have hard drives die every few months. He used to bring his computer with him to work every day (go figure) and the 90 mile daily round trip was taking its toll. He had since stopped doing that and I think he's been a year without any HDD failure.Originally posted by: deathkoba
Had over 20 Maxtor failures over the last 2 years. They are t3h suck. WD and IBM too. Seagates rule although I've had 2 fail.
Were those the Maxtor Fireball slimline drives? I had a bunch of those die.Originally posted by: DragonMasterAlex
My experience with hard drive problems have been with BATCHES from manufacturers.
As an example, about a year ago I got *several* bad Maxtor drives all in a row. They were the same size/series/etc., and they all developed the same errors. RMA'd, got new ones, and they've been problem-free ever since.
Several years ago it was Western Digital who had the series of bad batches. Practically every WD drive I saw for a couple of months was full of troubles. RMA'd them, got replacements, everything was happy again.
