Good finding. Can I use this baby as SATA? It says it's UATA. I'm confused

Time to give the graduation hat to the nice man who give it to you...

free shipping too! damn i have no need for it but i am so tempted. curse you all to hell!!! 😛

I have several maxtors, and none have failed. I have had Quantums and Seagates die on me....but never a Maxtor.
Good deal. Thanks, OP!

I think you just have bad luck with hard drives. I can't remember when the last time I had a hard drive failure in my own systems (and I have a bunch of computers, some with up to 5 hard drives of various brands - Maxtor, WD, Seagate, Samsung). A friend of mine used to have hard drives die every few months. He used to bring his computer with him to work every day (go figure) and the 90 mile daily round trip was taking its toll. He had since stopped doing that and I think he's been a year without any HDD failure.

My experience with hard drive problems have been with BATCHES from manufacturers.

As an example, about a year ago I got *several* bad Maxtor drives all in a row. They were the same size/series/etc., and they all developed the same errors. RMA'd, got new ones, and they've been problem-free ever since.

Several years ago it was Western Digital who had the series of bad batches. Practically every WD drive I saw for a couple of months was full of troubles. RMA'd them, got replacements, everything was happy again.
Were those the Maxtor Fireball slimline drives? I had a bunch of those die.

WD did a recall a couple of years ago. They initially took some flak for it, but then people respected them for owning up to the problem instead of pretending it didn't exist like a couple of other manufacturers did.

Could be worse, had 2 deathstar (ibm/hitachi deskstars) drives fail this week. What I find funny is Seagate who used to make the crappiest drives now has a 5 year warranty on their drives.

Anyways this is a really nice deal, must tell myself I don't need any more hard drives. Just got that 250 gigger from the staples closeout.

recess is over, time to go back inside...

this still seems to be a good deal. 160GB oem hard drives cost 80. so i would consider a retail 200GB for 80 to be warm, even though it is maxtor. 😛

a seagate 160gb died on me last month. with the 5 year warranty now im just so lazy to call them to RMA this baby 😛

This was a great find. The drive arrived in a day since it shipped out from PA. They are Diamondmax 10 models. This thing is actually faster than the 160GB SATA Hitachi drive I have as a main drive. Can't beat $.35/GB.
