There are reports of upgrading the NEC 2500A to 2510A Dual Layer burn capability. However, unless you are going to get the $20 coupon price down to $60+tax, NewEgg is selling OEM NEC 2510A for $93 (free shipping). Without qualifying and finding the $20 coupon, I'll go for the NewEgg version if looking for dual layer.

80+$3.20 tax at OfficeMax version versus $10 more at NewEgg to get the 2510A version and not worry about all the "power calibration" discussion to achieve dual layer.

P.S. The NEC 2500A is a great burner. I have one and prefer it for quality burns on many DVD media types. All comments above are for those members who want the "Dual Layer" burners now. I am very happy with my 2500A and figure it will be many months before the cost for dual layer media will drop low enough to matter. If you simply want a great single layer, dual format burner, this is another wonderful MysticMan1 burner deal.

Mystic,
I just purchased a mad dog dual layer from comp usa for 109.99 with a 30.00 rebate. The drive ends up being 79.99. It has a 2 year warranty and for 15.00 or so you can get a replacement policy for 1 year or 25.00 for 2 years.
My question is this, would this have Numbers then a letter if this is a nec 2510.
This drive doesn't, it has all numbers for the upc ( 33054 99893 ), do you know who oem's this drive by those numbers
Thanks
Ed

Look at the drive ID in device manager in the DVD/CD-ROMs section.

Right click My Computer/Properties or go to Control Panel and use the System icon. Device Manager is on the hardware tab.

I picked one of these up and the label says ND 2510A on it. It is also identified as such when installed, so it is definitely the NEC 2510A.

Guys,

I found another Manufacture. Rebate on the same product but specific for

UPC: 833054001552
Offer Dates: 6/13/04-6/19/04
Rebate $40.00

Can somebody confirm that UPC code is same for this product. If so this deal would turn hot, with another 40$ less.

Also I got coupn for $20 off $100 phone coupon (first order). So what, first order means? Is it first time buyers with OM or first one ever to call on phone. (In detail please). Couldn't find the $10 coupon, any helpful link would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

ram, I've used many "1st time buyer" coupons at Officemax, including some they've sent to me in the mail -- because I'm on their mailing list after buying something. I.e., I don't think it means much of anything.

#1. Officemax has a $40 rebate on the Mad Dog "4x' DVD±R/RW Drive, is that the rebate you're talking about? Can you provide a link to that rebate form?
#2. A first order means you don't have a on-line Officemax account, so when you call to order and the CSR ask for ypur account # tell them that you don't have a Officemax account, that means this is your "first order" with officemax. ;)
