(DEAD)
Update: Officemax is running 2 different ad in different part of the country, which they do the during the summer months, so if Mad Dog 8x/8x DVD±R/RW Drive was not no sale in your area this week it should be on sale next week. The ads for next week are up, so you can check the ad in your area for next week's sales.
The drive is still OOS online and people who place phone order are being told that the drive may be on backorder, but the rebate is good until July 24, so as long as the drive is shipped before the rebate expires you can still get one by phone order.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mad Dog Multimedia Dominator 6-in-1 (MD-8XDVDRW-PM) 8x DVD±R/RW Drive (#20740502) $89.99 - $40 MIR = $49.99 at Officemax

There's a $25 off $100 "phone/fax only" (first order) coupon and a $10 off $75 (from VISA) printable in-store only coupon (may be YMMV) floating around the net.
FYI: The Officemax phone CSR will not let you use a coupon on a order that has a FAR item as part of the order.

In the past people have received a NEC ND-2500A drive in the Mad Dog Multimedia Dominator 6-in-1 8x DVD±R/RW Drive box.

Wow..if this is a 2500A..I'm all over it..aren't these the ones that are firmware upgradeable to dual layer burning?

Mad Dod sound card (#20329985) could be good filler since it'll be $.99 AR.

Officemax CSR's and B&M are pretty militant in not allowing coupon use with SKU's involving IR's. We'll see if these SKU's show up online since that might be the best way to use a coupon.

$25.99 for a NEC 2500 + Sound Card could be hot. (especially with 2 easy/legitimate MIR's)

Yes. Go visit the cdfreaks.com forums for tons of info. I have the 2500A burner. Very excellent drive. I haven't bothered with the dual layer flash yet though. DL disks are too much $$$.

This offer must vary by area because in my area this drive is not shown, but a Khypermedia drive is.
If I check another state then it does show this Mad Dog drive. (for the link in the original post)

I got one of these 2 weeks ago (one day special deal).

Yes, it is NEC2500A and yes, I've flashed it to dual layer. Works great.

It may be availble online for everyone, but it's not available in the "Lexington, KY" version of the AD. Khypermedia 8X +RW here. Hoping that it's going to be online. I have a "real" online coupon that is still valid! :)

Thanks MysticMan1! :)

Copied from the rebate form online:

Promotion Name:Receive a $30.00 Mail-In Rebate When You Purchase a MadDog Dominator 6-in-1 8X Dual DVD+-RW (SKU #20740502)Rebate Reward: $30.00Valid Dates : 07-11-2004 through 08-07-2004
Dates vary by location, see details below.Postmark Date: 08-21-2004

Same problem OM had when they had the same promotion a few weeks ago. At the store, they reduced the price by $10. I don't know what will be done for online/phone orders.

Also, the sound card metioned by Henny, when checked online, says item will be $0.99 after rebate; however it shows as $22.99, price reflects $7 instant rebate, and lists the $15 MIR. It says it reflects a $7 IR, but it isn't taken off. I don't know if this will also be a problem in store/on the phone.

Thank you for pointing out that $30.

I ordered one online, but I might call to cancel now. Your right, the rebate itself says $30 even though online it says its supposed to be $40. If that is true, I might as well just order it on Newegg and save the hassle of rebates. Officemax charges sales tax which kind of hurts the deal, and with only a $30 rebate, that makes it about the same price as Newegg with no rebate.

I'm beginning to wonder if Officemax even looks at what they type in. Like mentioned earlier here, the valid dates it says are from 7-11-2004 to 8-7-2004.

However in the fine print it says this which is totally different. (Just more rebate crap I always hate, as it just gives the rebate company loopholes to not give your rebate).

TERMS AND CONDITIONS?Offer valid on purchase of MadDog Dominator 6-in-1 8X Dual DVD+-RW (SKU #20740502) at Officemax. Purchase must be made between July 18, 2004 & July 24, 2004 in the contiguous United States

Ah thanks for pointing out the rebate problem. I will call them up later and ask for some clarification or I'll cancel my order.

All dual-layer burners currently out now only allow 2.4x burn speeds for dual-layer.

Thanks MysticMan1.

Ordered online with Digital Concepts SD reader ($11.99 with $10.00 rebate). Used $25.00 coupon from Catalog that they mailed to my home. $81.xx - $50.00 in rebates (as soon as I can get the rebate forms...both of them :p...as they are wrong on the website). $31.xx after tax for a good 8X burner and a SD reader...almost can't be beat (unless free! ;) )

Thanks again! :)
