Dead machine - take a look

MSI KTPro-2a, tbird 1GHz (never OC'd), 256MB CAS2 IBM hd, Plextor burner, Pioneer DVD etc. First symptom, system began to fail to shut down completely--stopped at black screen. Then system failed to boot, but with fans/drives etc. spinning. All four 5v pins in ATX power connector burned black. Ideas??? Probably up s... creek, right?

It doesn't sound good but hopefully it is nothing serious. A little on the morbid side here but can we get some pics of the deceased?

Well, I tore the machine apart and inspected the mobo and adapter cards w/ a magnifying glass and didn't find any bubbled traces or burned chips. Pulled the HSF and CPU and inspected both sides--nothing apparent. So I cleaned up the contacts on the mobo side of the ATX connector, swapped in another power supply, and it booted and ran just fine. It still doesn't completely shut down. But, from the long articles on the subject on the web, shutting down is one of the many problems Mickeysoft hasn't fixed since it cropped up in Win98.0...
I'll post again if I finger out the shuddown problem.
