If you regularly receive Borders email in your inbox you should have a 50% off one item coupon. It will not take 50% off the already discounted online prices in red but it will take the 50% discount off the original list price. This is not too shabby for The Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Blu-ray pre-order. It's cheaper than both Amazon and Walmart with the price coming out to $62.49 + tax. ($68.42 for us Seattle area folks with high sales tax).

50% off code: BLP2566Y

Go through Ebates to get 6% Cashback (thanks to Wag).

I found a coupon code online for the 50% off: BLP2566Y. Since I'm a Borders Rewards member I used my own unique code instead so I can't say whether that works for everyone or not.

Applying BLP2566Y brings it to $62.50 for me, eligible for free shipping, but tax will be added on checkout. Not too bad for the trilogy.

On the fence for this one since I got the extended DVD editions. I think they're coming out with yet another edition but this really is the edition to get and not be too worried about future versions. Still PO'ed they released a non extended Blu-Ray version. Stinks of a money grab.

I may just have to jump on this, I've been waiting for the extended version before getting it on Blu-ray. I've got the extended DVDs and I really think a lot of the cut footage is quite good, though not 'vital'.

Well, Peter Jackson has said that he thought the theatrical release versions were better movies (in the sense of being tighter and flowing better) than the extended versions. He said the latter were more intended for Tolkien fans/geeks (in which group he included himself). What I'd have liked is if the extended version set also provided the theatrical release (probably by dynamically selecting the appropriate segment for places where the versions differ - that would take much less space than directly including both versions).

Don't forget to go through Ebates for an additional 6% off (pretty much what I paid in tax right there).

^This is the pre-order for the Extended Edition. Look at the box design. Item releases on June 28, 2011.

I haven't watched my DVDs again since I first bought them. Would be nice to have a copy that doesn't require a disc swap in the middle of, but this is just one of those series that I really don't need to watch multiple times.

How does Ebates work? Any sort of fees involved?

My wife is a massive LotR geek and wants this so badly, but that'd mean we'd have to get both a BluRay player and a 1080p HDTV (we've got 720p) to really enjoy it. Hrm, a $65 movie may be all it takes to convince her that it's time to upgrade!!!!

None. There are quite a few of these "rebates" sites around the web now. All you do is sign up and click through the link to the store you desire (obviously they make a profit when you click through their site). When you reach a certain amount ($5, etc) they mail you a check or deposit it into your PayPal acct. It's essentially found money.
