Dead Laptop?

I've got a Compaq ( I know, that was my first mistake ), 2101us laptop. The harddrive died about a month ago and I replaced it with a new one. It worked fine for about a week. In the middle of a movie it froze up and now it wont even start up now. I got the harddrive from newegg so I sent it back and got a new one just to make sure that wasn't it again.

In the Bios it doesn't even show my harddrive and wont boot from CD.

Is it dead?
