Dead laptop screen...

So my laptop's screen has been dead since my dear mother smothered the fan with a pillow since it was "too loud".

I'm pretty sure its only the backlight that went out, since if you hold a light to it, you can see the picture. How do I remedy this?

It is a Toshiba 2595xDVD.

It is not a user job unless you are well qualified to disassemble the screen. If you have to ask the question, then the most rational answer is to take it in for back light replacement.

if you still have a warranty on it, you should send it in. otherwise, you'll have to get it repaired, which isn't a cheap process.

I can do it myself.

I am well qualified to do so, and have already dissassembled the laptop.

I looked up how to do this on google, and apparently, I need a new inverter. After finding the old one, I determined that this should be a really easy project.

After checking prices, its about 150 dollars. However, I need help selecting one. Any store would want 400 dollars to fix this, but they would replace the entire LCD, when that still works.

Sometimes you can find a duplicate laptop or LCD on EBay and replace the whole thing with a lot less fuss and feathers. You can also look for the exact inverter you need on Ebay as well.
