So I think LAN port on my ASUS X470 Strix-F may be dead.

Device Manager shows i211 network device functioning properly, but even if I plug in a known good cable it still shows as "unplugged" in windows, and the little lights on the RJ port do not light up as they normally would.

Things I did to try and resolve:
  • tried different network cable with no results
  • tried different network switch with no results
  • tried different CPU (not sure why, desperate I guess)
  • reflashed the latest BIOS
  • flashed back to previous BIOS
  • cleared CMOS by unplugging power, taking out battery, and shorting the clear cmos pin for couple of minutes

Nothing helps, windows just won't recognize the cable as plugged in. If I use add-on i210-t1 card, then network works fine, but if I plug the cable back into onboard port - nada.

I feel dumb. Before I RMA the motherboard, am I missing anything?

Do you have "Security Suite" software installed, like McAfee, Avast, etc..? If so, try FULLY removing that software.

That motherboard features Asus' "anti-surge LANGuard", so maybe something triggered it?

The only option i see in the BIOS concerning the LAN is turning it on or off in the BIOS (page 3-16).

That's all I can think of, so if that doesn't fix anything, you could very well have a defective LAN port. I own that motherboard, and I haven't any problems with mine (and I use Norton Security as well).

No, I even did fresh install and on the setup page it complained there is no internet.

I couldn't find anything on anti-surge, but surely it must have been cleared when I cleared CMOS? I also did try switching network off and back on in BIOS, did not help.

I'll take the motherboard out of the case and try swapping power supply, ram, and video card today (getting really desperate), and after that I can't think of anything else to do.
