Khypermedia is some of the worst media out there. Check over at dvdrhelp.com for reviews on this media before you buy.

I'm going to pick up the Imation +R's for $10 for 10 pc's after rebate. These are Ricoh disc's that I can use the booktype setting on my Lite-On 411S and set them to DVD-Rom for maximum compatibility with Set-top dvd players.

KHypermedia's are too iffy for me at any price. Might be ok for data though.

I have never seen a deal about DVD media that didn't include a least one post where someone craps on the quality of said brand.

If you think a certain type sucks, then don't buy it. Let others figure it out for themselves.

While I agree with "If you think a certain type sucks, then don't buy it", I appreciate it when people give out information about a product before buying. It's also nice when people share the research they've done, because it save the hundreds/thousands of people reading the thread from duplicating their effort.

Just MHO.

I'm sick of OM bs. They usually have about 2 packs on the shelf and it sells out in minutes. They never issue rainchecks either. I'm going to buy it today and then do a return/repurchase tomorrow.

This is the only way I can get them. Stores in SC don't open until noon, so you you choose to go to Sunday morning Christian Church Services (as I do), you cannot get to the store until say 12:30- 1pm. By then, they are all long gone. I can't remember how many times I have been to OM about 20 mins after they opened looking for the front page flyer special only for them to be out. I ususally here from OM - "there was a line for that item. It just flew off the shelves!"

I went to the only OM in town yesterday, and there were 5 packs - all with the black plastic bottom, probably CMCs. Purchased 1 at $45 to do a return and rebuy next week.

Hey dude,
I don't know what you are talking about, but my store always have at least 20 packs. There's always more demand than what we have. I do offer rainchecks if you ask. Problem is people don't ask then they complaint.

I'm going to buy it today and then do a return/repurchase tomorrow.

You do this at my store and I will let you return it but I will sell it to the next customer. It's unfair to those who comes early into the store, unless we have a lot more than 20 packs.

I went to OM this evening and they had 4 packs of the Khypermedia on the shelf besides the pack that I bought. They had a good amount of the $5 AR Imation DVD+RW's though. The weird thing was that OM already had the sales tags out on the shelves. I grabbed one pack each of the 25 pk and 5 pk and the CSR gave me the instant rebate, but said that I'd have to come back during the week and do a return/rebuy to get the MIR's. I was going to try to argue that the shelf said that I'd get a MIR even though I did know that these dvd's were not on sale yet. He said that he could not do the MIR now. That's fair. At least I got the instant rebate now.

Sounds like a screwed up store, eh? I wonder how long the sales tag for next week was up on the shelf. I didn't think to ask the CSR. Maybe that's why all the dvd's that are on sale are sold out by the time I get there on Sunday?

BTW.. There was a guy at the counter looking for a Khypermedia drive from last weeks sale. OM didn't have any left and they told him flat out that they could not give him a rain check. Bad_Dude.. This is where you can stick your raincheck.. ;)

I've missed out several times to due to them selling out, so I went by Saturday afternoon, picked up a couple and "misplaced them" behind some calculators on another shelf. Today I'll go retrieve them. Hehe.

Hey bad_dude,
How come your customers have to ASK for a raincheck before you give them one, why don't you OFFER to give them a raincheck when you tell them it's OOS. Do you or the store get penalized by corporate for offering rainchecks?

Picked up a pack this morning. ID as CMC. Burned a movie with no problems. Worth the $5 risk.

At my store, 2 rebates printed out on the discs. One is for $30, the other is for 10!

Basically, if you get these in store, you make $5 after rebate!

Yeah, me too. 2 rebates printed out. The $10 rebate says it is for the DVD+R pack though. I'll send it in anyways, then complain later when and if its rejected. The disks I got were CMCMAG.AF1 , BTW. I haven't tried a burn yet though, I'll report back later with results.

EDIT: well, my liteon 411s (FSOF firmware) failed to finish burning the disk. It physically wrote the disk, but failed at the end. Here's the error log:

11:45:49 AM #21 DVDR -1046 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1468
Illegal medium

11:45:49 AM #22 TRANSFER -24 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1468
Could not perform end of Disc-At-Once

11:45:49 AM #23 CDR -201 File WriterStatus.cpp, Line 163
Invalid write state

11:45:49 AM #24 TRANSFER -24 File WriterStatus.cpp, Line 163
Could not perform end of Disc-At-Once

11:45:49 AM #25 Phase 38 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1655
Burn process failed at 4x (5,520 KB/s)

Strange thing is that I read a review at dvdrhelp.com of someone who has used CMCMAG.AF1 disks without problems on a liteon 411s with the same firmware as me. Go figure.

Does the $10 rebate also require the original UPC code?

The OM rebate requires the original UPC bar code. The online rebate form also says the original UPC bar code is required. (though the online form is for Value Disk Brand DVD-R, the bar code is the same.)

Edit: The printed out rebate form does say "Copies of UPCs acceptable when used in conjuction with Manufacturer rebates."

Both rebates go to the same address with different promotion #.
