Dead iPaq battery?

I have a B&W iPaq I just tried to use for the first time in about 8 months.

When I plug it in to the AC adapter, the iPaq works fine. I let it sit overnight to charge up the battery, and when I unplugged it I couldn't turn it on. So I plugged it in, and it worked and the PDA did the whole setup screen again. Tried to let it charge, it died again upon unplugging.

I'm guessing the battery died, anyone else have any idea if this is fixable?

You can buy the battery for about $80 at gethightech.com. There are about half a dozen other places that sell it. For a price, you can send in your iPAQ and have them change it too.

I wouldn't bother to get it fixed if it was going to cost $80-$130.
