Belkin has a KVM very similar in design that I bought from MicroCenter for the same price. They have it on sale from time to time.

I'm interested in KVMs but have never used one. Do both PCs need to be powered up to use the keyboard and mouse? What if one of them is off? Will I still be able to use the other?

Thanks.

Oh yeah, does this work with a wireless keyboard/mouse? I use the MX Duo set.

Has anyone used this kvm switch. I bought this really crappy kvm switch before and it didn't recognize the mouse/keyboard most of the time I switched. The only ones that I know are good are the Belkin Omniview line. Any opinions about the IOGear line?

I use my KVM when one computer is off, and I use them with my wireless setup.

If you have more than one machine, a KVM is a GREAT investment!

How do you guys deal with the sound from your PCs? I supoose you either have to swap the connector from one PC to the other or, just go soundless from one of them. Is that correct?

I bought this exact switch last week for my boss, and am extremely pleased.
Setup couldn't be easier and it works flawlessly.
Hitting "scroll lock" twice in rapid succession switches between the two machines.

I just tucked it away behind my desk out of sight.

This is a great deal. Thanks OP

You either get a kvm switch with audio switching support, get a seperate audio switch, do it manually like you said, or just go soundless for one like you said.

I've been using this model for a year and a half. I bought it at Fry's when they first came out for 39.99 and it was worth every penny. I bought a second 4 port no-name from Newegg 6-8 months ago. I still use the IOGear at work. I wish I would have bought a 4 port IOGear instead of the cheapo from Newegg. The IOGear unit is made better and works easier. For 20.00, it's a great deal.

The KVM I have has built in audio and usb support..... I was a lot more than $20 though.

THe IO Gear KVM's are pretty good. Much better than the old Belkin's that I had. The only trouble I have is with the GCS612A model. The KB and Mouse inputs are too close to the VGA input. If you have one of the MS Mouses that is really USB and comes with a PS/2 adapter, it will *NOT* fit. The adapter body overlaps the VGA port. Other than that, it works great.

Not a problem on this one. I have this one and have had it for probably over a year. Got one when my monitor died and I replaced it with something that didn't have 2 inputs. On this one the keyboard and mouse connectors are on one of the sides and the video connection is on the front side (opposite side from where all the cables come out). I have no problem using a usb mouse with an adaptor on it. Works well and i haven't had any problems with it yet. The molded in cables seem to be of good quality. The video cable for example actually has usable thumb screws on it to screw in the cable to the video card and all three are molded together untill the last 12 inches or so and makes managing the cables much easier.

Well, I have the audio out from my 2nd machine running to the line in on my main rig. This works fine for me as my main rig is always on.

Does anyone know of a KVM that supports "native" USB mice and KBs rather than requiring the use of USB-PS/2 adapters?

I must be dense. Can someone please explain the "AutoScan" mode? I've read the manual and I'm still confused.

Thanks.

I bought the GSC612A which offers audio support as well. It was available on Buy.com for around $44. I simply had to have audio to check customer PCs after I gave a PC back to a customer after working on it without loading the proper audio drivers. The units themselves are a great buy, especially at a Hot Deals price. No problems at high res, no signal loss and molded quality cables make for a great KVM.

I bought this KVM switch model ~ two month ago. I've been using a usb mouse with PS2 adapter. I haven't had any recognition issues. it switches from machine to machine without a problem. normally i use it when i'm building a second machine or troubleshooting. i do not, however, use it that frequently. I'm running xp pro, 9800 Pro, with a samsun 712n. when i do use the kvm, the clarity on my lcd is pretty shoddy. i wouldn't want to use it as long term solution.

This switch is great ! I have been using one for over a year.

Only problem is that when I use this with my Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop keyboard, I have to do this extra step to switch between the PCs --

Scroll Lock - Tap Tap
F-Lock - Tap Tap
Scroll Lock - Tap Tap

With other keyboards (including my Logitech Elite Wireless KB) all I do is this --

Scroll Lock - Tap Tap

Either way - great KVM, especially for the price ! I originally paid close to $40 for this one, and THAT was AFTER a small coupon !!

I just got my KVM switch in yesterday and it is sweet. Both my keyboard and mouse have USB adaptors and it still was no problem hooking them up together. Nice high quality product for $19.99 shipped, highly recommended. :)

this is an outstanding deal for this kvm. we run 2 of these at work and bought them for well over $30 just a few months ago. no ghosting or mouse lag at all! im hoping on this deal right away. i highly recommend both this kvm and the iogear 4 port desktop model and ESPECIALLY the 8 port rackmounted iogear kvm! thanks for the great deal, if you are in the market for a kvm, jump on this deal before its over!

I received mine the other day and I agree with the previous comments about its high quality!

I went back to the item's page at buy.com and the price has increased to $27.45. :( I guess this is another example of the AT effect.

Question for psxjunky:

I have the same setup BUT can't get to work as you described.

What port did you plug USB receiver into - keyboard or mouse?

When I plug into mouse port both keyboard and mouse work but can't switch

When I plug into keyboard port keyboard works and I can switch as you described but no mouse

Microsoft Wireless Optical DeskTop and IoGear MiniView 2 Port USB Switch

Thanks
