Good luck this time, hopefully their servers will be up to the task. Took 50 days for the 2 32GB I ordered to be delivered. Both of them still unopened to this day. Playing with the 3rd 32GB I got via hhgregg mid Sept., love tweaking with it so far.

Woa, HP just ships them like that without any padding? It wouldn't stand a chance with my soccer-playing UPS driver.

I love this tablet. Yes it is thicker than most tablets but this make is easier to hold.

Furthermore via it being thicker they have room for real speakers that are not a POS.

I wish more tablets focus on the speaker quality as well as the screen quality.

not exactly. they ship the touchpads in a white box, and that box is inside that carboard box. http://www.everythingabouttablets.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/hp.touchpad.box_-300x280.jpg

The 12/11 date is for HP employees only, the sale to the general public doesn't happen until the next Morning... so what are the chances that there will be any left at all?

from what i understand the employee sale happens on the same day as the ebay sale. just a couple hours earlier or something. i would not be worried about hp employees, but rather the seemingly unstoppable swarm of slickdealers :p

hmm. actually now i'm pretty confused by all this. at first they say

The product offer will be announced to the general public on Monday morning(which is the 12th)

but also will be posted for sale through the HP eBay store at: 6:00 p.m. (Central Time), Sunday, December 11th.

:hmm: Imagine thousands of desperate, bleeting sheeple, anxious to increase their credit balances in the name of obsolete, out of support hardware.
You wont last long here.

As for the deal: I'd like one but I know darn well I wont be able to get it.

These are refurbs, returns, gotta figure NOBODY returned a unit that wasn't defective, not when a working unit was easy to sell at a nice profit. These may have all kinds of minor, but real defects like a few bad pixels etc.

I'm thinking most of the refurbs were for the cases. Most of them I have seen (including mine) eventually got a crack down by the left speaker. I guess it was a pretty widespread issue that they were taking a lot of returns for. I just superglued mine.

The information OP posted is from an E-mail that went out to HP employees, so it will be made available to them at 6pm CST Sunday, the rest of us have to wait until Monday morning... no time specified. That should be fun. :)

Ah, good point, I forgot it was through eBay. They're almost certainly going to have to change their plans if they want employees to have the first crack at them. Did they really think they could put them up on their eBay store and not have anyone notice until the next morning?

oh and looks like the info hit yahoo as well. http://news.yahoo.com/hp-offering-limited-refurbished-99-touchpads-12-11-013606258.html
so the chances just got slimmer :p

- It's right before Christmas
- Everyone wants a tablet
- It's $99/$150
- News of the deal got out days before the sale
- It's on major news and national tv
- order thru a single site

It's going to be worst than the touchpad fire sale a few months ago.
Good luck trying to get a response from the ebay site. It's going to crash ebay/paypal.

Are they kidding? Do they really think these wont be sold out in the first 2 minutes even without a "general public" announcement? I'm pretty quick on ebay, having made dozens of purchases, and I'm wondering if I'll get in on time in the first 30 seconds. I dont expect the stock to last any longer than that.

You still have the option to buy them at the $200 - $220 Ebay price. Still a decent deal considering what you get compared to whats out there.

Buy the Following:

Touchstone charging base. $40
Case and sleeve. $20
Blue Tooth keyboard. $20
Splashtop and some other paid apps.

You can get a fully loaded/functional tablet and accessories for $300.

Killer deal for me.

Then again at this price. You can get an E-350 AMD Laptop which does a lot more. ;)

just for grins I was going to try and buy one.
any info of when this will actually start? Midnight or 6pm pst or ???

Macgyversite you make a good point and I would love to get a complete setup.
but looking at the post here and everywhere else. IF you get a chance to hit buy on a unit. DO IT AND PAY
don't try to add to cart, by then it won't be there.

I thought they were always $70, or am I thinking of something else?

Exactly:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Glad I'm not the only who amazed at the love for these.
These have had bad reviews from day one and are really an inferior product compared to some other tablets available.
Their sales were abysmal at retail prices then suddenly the price drops and they are "must have", to point of the begging I've seen here and elsewhere in the various threads!
Crap is crap, whether it's a $1 turd or a $100 turd :)

And threadcrapping is threadcrapping.

Each to his own. You probably didnt update it and take a little care to get it running right. Once this is done. I have found it to run Very well. I choose it over the Ipad.

HPPLAY is better than Itunes any day of the week.
Splashtop works flawlessly.
It does flash quite well. LOL, Apple No.
The screen looks just as good as Apples.
The touchstone charging base RULEZ.
This thing hooks up to most email clients with Ease.
Facebook is quite awesome.

Install the Homebrew app, get her to 1.5ghz, do some tweaks and this thing runs circles around the Ipad.

Like I said each to his own however I prefer 5 FIVE HP Touchpads to one regular priced NEW Ipad. ;)

Didn't this HP tablet have all these benefits before it was discontinued/discounted? Surprised there was no demand for these back then:confused:

sorry but you dont know what you are talking about unless you actually owned one yourself.

or please show me a 'superior' tablet for the same $99/$149 price.

btw if you have nothing to contribute worthwhile to this topic then kindly stay out. otherwise you are just trolling

The Touchpad has good hardware and a good screen, it has nothing to do with the device itself but the price point HP released it at. They aren't apple and can't command the same kind of blind purchasing power the apple fanatics bring. Had HP released it closer to the prices it is at now, it would have been huge from day 1.

It's not trolling for someone to not be in love with these!
You act like it's the deal of the century. My point was that an inferior product is inferior regardless of price.
So if these are so great, why didn't folks run out and buy them before the price went down?

Rules of the forum are simple. Dont have anything nice to say.

Dont say it.

Here is a P/M I got from a mod for saying a deal Wasn't Hot.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Thread Crapping

If a deal does not interest you, just move on.

From the Hot Deals Rules:

"What about COURTESY?

No thread crapping. If the subject matter of a deal does not interest you, do not post negative comments about it, or about other members, in the thread."

This is just a warning. No points attach.

Because it wasn't worth $500-600. But it's worth $100/150. Now that Touchpad can dual boot WebOS/Android, it's more valuable than ever. Android makes Touchpad a super deal. Dual boot basically doubles Touchpad value and turns obsolete product into near top of the line tablet.
