Dead HP Omnibook 6000?

I bought an HP Omnibook 6000 from a guy @ work yesterday. It won't power on at all, regardless of whether or not it's plugged into the AC adapter. I get no lights, no sense of activity at all. I've checked the memory, NIC, harddrive, battery, and cdrom to see if something was affecting it. I also plugged it into the docking station and tried to power it up that way, but I got nothing. The guy who sold it to me said it could be the battery, so he wants to try another one (he has an extra) but I'm thinking that if the battery is dead, it should still power on via the AC adapter, right?

My guess is it would still power on with a dead battery since for all practical purposes, I sometimes have used a dead battery with my gateways and they do. Sounds more serious than that. Good luck

Er... could the AC adapter be broken? If you see no lights whatsoever on the lappy even with ac plugged in that might be it.

True, the adapter would be a possible culprit ... does the light on the adapter come on when plugged in?

I was about to post that. Looking at the adapter it does not light when plugged into the wall socket. Would it still light if not plugged into the laptop?
