Go to shopping.hp.com and select the Envy 15 notebook. Choose to customize the base model ($1299). Add at least $100 worth of options (the 1080p matte or glossy screens are a highly recommended upgrade), bringing the total to no less than $1399. At checkout, apply the coupon NBMY33241. You should get $450 off, bringing the total to around $1000 with tax, AND free 5-7 day shipping.
Basic specs:
i5 430M
4GB DDR3 1066
ATI HD 5830
320GB 7200 RPM hard drive
1920x1080 glossy or matte 15.6" screen with upgrade
Magnesium Alloy (metal) chassis
~5 lbs heavy
~1" thick
USB / eSATA combo, 2x additional USB, HDMI, ethernet, SDHC / Micro SDHC slot
- There's no CD drive, but an external with additional two USB ports is available for $50 when customizing.
- Battery life is 2.5-3 hours, perhaps more, with standard 6 cell; a "slim fit" 9 cell is available which brings battery life to 5-7 hours or so, but adds additional weight and thickness when attached
- Some users report difficulty with the webcam (driver issue) and integrated touchpad buttons (minor annoyances)
- 2x USB 3.0 ports and 4x DIMM slots available with (expensive) upgrade to i7 processor; i5 model has USB 2.0 and 2x DIMM instead
- The chassis can accommodate 1x 2.5" hard drive OR 2x 1.8" hard drive - great if you have an X18-M kicking around!
Overall, they look like really solid laptops, and for this price it's a no-brainer if you're in the market and have the cash.
