I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet.

Go to http://www.live.com
search for HP
Click the banner near the top that says "HP® Official Store Black Friday Sale: $638 off HP Desktops + 40% Cashback. Free Shipping!"
Try like crazy to get in the store!

1. You do not need to pay with Paypal, Live CB works with credit cards.
2. Only cash back limit is the $2500 per year limit. No limit per transaction unlike ebay.
3. This is an HP advertised special, so it will work 100% on anything WITHOUT EPP/APP/Coupon.
4. But HP sales rep also stated that this WILL WORK on items even WITH instant rebate.
5. This will NOT work with EPP/APP/coupons.

For more details, see http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=1042651

If anyone is interested, this is what I got:

I got in not too long ago and placed an order. I still haven't gotten an order confirmation or cashback email, but my order does show in HP.com so I'm hoping everything is OK.
From what I can tell it's taking half an hour to get an order confirmation email and 2+ hours to get a cashback email.

This is all that I get when I try to enter the store via Live:

Yeah you'll get that for a while. Just keep refreshing. Having multiple tabs helps. I just tried a few times and got in pretty quickly again. Earlier today there was almost no hope but it seems to be getting easier now.

Funny that I can get into HP's site just fine using a normal link but trying to get in thru Live.com's cashback is a complete no go at the moment. :D

Not really.. HP's site is fine. It's the live.com cashback server that's getting hammered.

Yep, I got it a few times already but the window for cash back that pops up over the site craps out every time and I can't enter a security code to get it. Tried refreshing the window itself a whole bunch of times, useless.

I got in a couple more times and one of those the page actually completely loaded but now it's stuck at a step where it verifies the code it asked me to enter. Been stuck like that for past 10 minutes.

don't count on it. I got in maybe 7 times by now, only once the cahsback popup window completely loaded where you have to enter your email and a code, but it got stuck at a step where it verifies the security code and after maybe 20 minutes waiting for it I gave up and hit refresh again.

Does anyone know which items on HP's site qualify for the 40% off? I finally got in and I need to buy something :D

No items are marked so I have no clue what's eligible.

Thanks :)

I got in w/o any problems. It only took a few refreshes. I ordered a LaserJet M1319f MFP that had a $100.00 rebate already but I didn't get the order in until 10:02 pm. Am I screwed for the 40% CB? I didn't see anywhere in the checkout, anything about Live CB.... dang :(

Did you ever see a message that said "Your cashback is now active"?

If you visit FatWallet or another such deal forum, you'll find pages of punters wailing and gnashing their teeth over this deal.

Last night, before the deal went active, the FatWallet thread contained quite a bit of questioning whether the MS Live cashback would ever be redeemed, considering the conditions MS imposes (especially regarding other coupons or discounts -- which HP computers don't come with some 'instant rebate' or other?).

I'll be very curious to see how many of the punters get their cash back in a couple of months. It's already a public relations debacle. Imagine how ugly it will get if thousands of customers are denied the 40 per cent cash back...

You're ok. You have 24 hrs from the time the session is initiated to make a purchase and qualify for the 40%. I got in a couple of hours ago and I'm still configuring a laptop. If they reject the purchase as ineligible I'll raise some hell. :|

He might not be - it depends on if it ever said that cashback was active for him.

Around 9:55 EST the 40% link was still visible, but if you clicked on it it would take you directly to the store without asking you to enter your email address to activate cash back. If this happened to him, he will not be eligible for cash back.

I got through in the end but I was so exhausted that I just gave up -- I don't need a notebook and they didn't include the really nice LCDs. Almost brought a B9180 printer but meh...

I didn't realize it went for 24 hours though. Oh well, HP/Live.com can suck it on this deal (I'm all over the other cashback deals).

Alright! It only took 7 hours and 15 minutes after placing my order, but I finally got the email: You received $590.00 from your HP Home & Home Office Store purchase on 11/28/2008
