I bought an LG BluRay DVD player and after hours and hours of frustration, found that one of the two HDMI ports on my LG plasma tv is dead. The other works fine and has been used for satellite reception. I could get the DVD hooked up but no picture or sound. Display window of dvd shows disc is playing. But I've hooked this DVD up with every configuration in the instructions and the thing just doesn't work off HDMI2.

Now that I've found the dead hdmi, is there a way to bring it back to life? Maybe something in the setup? Believe me, this hdmi is really dead. I switched cables to try and make the TV run off HDMI2 but it shows "no signal." If not, who works on today's TVs? Just any TV service person? I found one independent who charges $80 to make a service call.

Does the port on the TV wiggle at all? they can break if you're rough with them although I'm sure they could just stop working.

They will most likely just recommend that you just replace the input/image processing board. The cost of labor and the part will most likely be a lot more than just buying and hdmi switch from monoprice, or even a decent hdmi switching receiver.

Basically, unless you can figure out how to fix it yourself its going to cost more to repair than a work around will be.

EDIT: you have hooked up the DVD player to the working port and got a picture right?

Thanks to you guys who posted a reply to my thread. Now I must confess. I called a repairman and he found errors in my setup that the instruction book didn't cover. Now the dvd works fine. He also found a black line at the bottom of my screen, said to fix it would cost more than a new tv. It's unobtrusive so I'll leave it alone.
