my hd is dead it makes a clicking sound whenever powered on. It isnt seen in the bios, and it wont boot up, If the freezer trick or any other similar tricks get the actual disk to spin, will i be able to get stuff off the disk, because it isnt sen by the bios, or will freezing it/other tricks make it able to be seen byt the bios along with making it readable.

thnx

When did it die? How did it die? sounds like something that happened to one ofmine a while back. Try tapping the hd gently but firmly on the top. Sounds like the heads are stuck. The freezer trixk is a last resort. Can you not RMA it? If not, try swapping the Fuzzy logic board on the back of the hd, if you can find another.

If none of this works, and the hd is truly dead, give me the measurements and I will make a handy casket and loan you a shovel ;)

Try giving it a gentle whack first, it sounds bad I know, but remember modern HDDs can sustain hundreds of gees of shock while off. A friend of mine had a hard drive which clicked and he couldn't use it. He dropped it by accident, and obviously jolted the heads because it worked again (albeit it was still rooted) and he was able to recover data.

tap it first. if that doesn't work, try the freezer trick, but make sure that the bag u put it in is completely moisture freeze (ie. zip lock), otherwise your hd will litterally freeze :D
