dead hardisk? help please

my slave hardisk seems to have died on me. Yesterday when i tried to listen to some music i found that i couldn't access my slave disk no matter what. I tried to run data-lifeguard tools (its a WD HDD) but it wouldn't let me run the diagnostics for some reason.

the error is when i try to open up my "d" drive, it tells me the disk is not formatted and wants me to format it.

I'm susupecting a corrupted volume but i' m not sure. is there any way to rescue my files before i re-format it and possibly get an RMA?

Do a search on Google for data recovery, there are a lot of programs out there some being freeware or shareware that will recover the data from the drive.
