dead hard drive

have a maxtor diamondmax plus 9 over here that's not detecting at all. error message on bootup is cannot detect hard drive.

i've tried hooking this up to another system as a slave but when i do that, my other system won't even boot at all. i've tried this on a dell system (for some reason, they like to use the CS jumper) and when i connect it (the deard hd) up as a slave or CS the system doesn't boot. when i do it on my home computer with my hd set to master and this maxtor set to slave, my system won't boot up either. i even tried hooking this up as an external drive but that didn't work either.

anyone have any ideas or how i can retrieve stuff off this drive?
 
You're looking at having to send it in to a data recovery business to get data. Drive Savers in California or some other such location.
