Dead GPU fan -> toasted GF3Ti200?

I got tired of the rattling fan on my GF3Ti200 and replaced it a few weeks ago with a Vantec copper cooler. Ran nice and quiet and things seemed fine. However, yesterday the computer died completely, and after some tooling around I found out that the Vantec fan had died. I recently had problems with the screen flickering, thought it was the monitor but I now suspect the GPU was overheating.

When I boot the computer then the mobo makes a loud beep doesn't do anything, when I press the reset button then the computer powers down completely. I'm guessing my GF3 is shot, but does the loud beep or the strange behaviour after the reset button have anything to do with the video card? I don't have any spare parts lying around, so I can't just swap video cards or mobo's to check the source of trouble. Don't want to buy a new video card and discover that the mobo was the source of the trouble.

BTW, the dead fan appears to be my fault, not Vantec's. I wrapped up the cables in the computer and had the power line to the fan pulled too tightly, the fan now works fine with a new power cable (just no GF3 to use it on :-(
