Didn't see this posted. Just got the morning paper and saw this add for renton fry's. Most likely at the other stores as well.

Intel core 2 quad Q9550 & ecs G3IT-M $229.99

sell the mobo and pickup the gigabyte from newegg 🙂

Edit: They also have the patriot ram on sale

4gb 2x2gb DDR2 PC6400 $64.99 - 25 rebate = $39.99

QX9775 Extreme $888.88 plus get a $10.00 gas card. Newegg has the same chip around $1500.00

Slickdeals appears down, but it appeared on there last night. Woke up this morning and stopped at the Sacramento, CA Frys in Natomas. As of 9:30am they had ~13 of the Q9550's left. Most seemed to be SLAWQ but I got them to look around and give me an SLB8B.

crap... I just bought a Q9550 for more $ last night... LAST NIGHT! argh, I'm that guy today. I could always try my local Fry's and possibly sell the other q9550 when it shows up... but I'm lazy.

Picked one up in Austin this morning; don't know what kind of quantities they had but got an SLB8V. Running stock so far, for a few days anyway..

HOT deal! Trying to get my friend in California (I'm in Florida) to check out Fry's today after he gets off work. Wonder if there will be any left.

thats a definite hot deal. they had the 9400 a few weeks ago for the same price and i wished i had gotten that. frys seems to have been raising their prices on the motherboard cpu combos in the last month or so, so id get this one now if youre in the market

By the way, it's a retail chip and the board I got with mine won't even fully boot with this CPU; the bios is about a year old and works fine with a 65nm CPU. I have it running in a Dell T3400 but intend to try it in my Abit P35-E after I run it for a while stock, to see how fast it will go with reasonable voltage.

its not a boxed retail chip. its oem and it doesnt even come with a fan . also i doubt they would sell it with that board if it didnt work with it

Well, it's reported by pretty much everyone except you to be a retail-boxed CPU in this deal.

And this board does support the CPU, but not with the shipping BIOS firmware found on many of the boards. Fry's is going to get a lot of returns from people who either don't know the BIOS needs to be updated to run this CPU properly or don't have another CPU they can use with the board temporarily to perform the BIOS update. Apparently, some Fry's stores are aware of this and are proactively updating the BIOS and attaching a "tested and updated" sticker to the boxes.

Webster, TX Fry's is bundling retail box CPUs (mine is a SLB8V). I haven't put it together yet so I don't know if the board has a recent enough BIOS to support the chip.

This is good combo board is stable just make sure they dont try to sell you used OEMs because they try to do that in the one in Burbank ca . By the way the customer service sucks at the Burbank store I dont know what it is about that store.

Are you saying that yours wasn't a retail Processor and it didn't come with a fan?

I live in Dallas and my Processor was in a sealed Intel box and the mobo was too. I looked in the Processor box and there was a fan with it too. ? ? ? ?

I actually only bought this for the processor. Don't need the mobo. At $229 though it was a good deal considering I haven't seen them anywhere for less than $319. Was hoping they would drop in price (Q9550) when the i7's came out. No such luck.

I got mine - E0 stepping - not gonna bother with that board on this chip but they've been selling 45nm CPU's for a long time now that "support" the chips after a bios update but not out the box - that isn't anything new

**also got mine with a nice low VID at 1.175v - testing at 3.8ghz at 1.26v right now

Renton fry's retail boxed cpu with fan as well.

I haven't kept up on cpu's in some time, what's is the difference from the slawq and others ? I didn't have them look for others but I got the slawq.

Stolen from slickdeals: Poster: boltman2007

The major fixes from C1 to E0 stepping for that chip are:

AV37. Performance Monitoring Event IA32_FIXED_CTR2 May Not Function Properly when Max Ratio is a Non-Integer Core-to-Bus Ratio
AV41. VM Exit with Exit Reason ?TPR Below Threshold? Can Cause the Blocking by MOV/POP SS and Blocking by STI Bits to be Cleared in the Guest Interruptibility-State Field
AV44. NMIs May Not Be Blocked by a VM-Entry Failure
AV45. Partial Streaming Load Instruction Sequence May Cause the Processor to Hang
AV46. Self/Cross Modifying Code May Not be Detected or May Cause a Machine Check Exception
AV47. Data TLB Eviction Condition in the Middle of a Cacheline Split Load Operation May Cause the Processor to Hang
AV49. RSM Instruction Execution under Certain Conditions May Cause Processor Hang or Unexpected Instruction Execution Results

These fixes on top of being a more refined chip overall.

Just reporting what I got at the Austin store; take it for what it's worth. Board works fine with a 65nm CPU and Fry;s HAS sold a CPU with a board that wouldn't support it in the past. The Q9550 definitely came in a box and there was an Intel heatsink/fan with it. E0 stepping. I guess YMMV.

I got a retail E0 (SLB8V) yesterday, 8.5 x 450 worked perfectly with only bumping up the vcore to 1.3v from 1.25 stock VID all other volts stock, right now I am testing 8.5 x 460 using intel burn test. 8.5 x 471 (still at 1.3 vcore!!) boots and is stable under OCCT but generates errors in Intel Burn Test. Thanks a lot OP for the head up on this monster chip.

Las Vegas has 'em, but be prepared to get a 're-boxed' CPU. They claim they have no new chips, these still have 3-year MFG warranty. It does come in a retail box with CPU fan, though.

I bought one today anyways, knowing I'm going to return it at the first sign of trouble. So, just like with the recent 7200 (2.53 GHz C2D) deal, I'll be burning it in & testing it in the next few days. Funny thing is Fry's is adamant that returns must be 'undamaged, clean & brand-new condition'. You mean in better condition than you sold it to me? Heh.

When they first brought me the CPU today, I refused it - it had obviously been poorly mounted & had thermal grease residue on it. It had a label on it from 9/24/08 - no new stock in two months? I was told it was the best one they had ... riiiiigghht. After insisting they bring me a different one, they eventually did - still open box, but much better. I'll post here if I have problems with it. As long as it works right, it's a helluva deal. If they have something better on Black Friday, I guess it could be returned as well. I don't like making a habit of that, but if Fry's is going to sell non-new merchandise ...
