Still waiting for my free CD(DVD) from Microsoft after doing that survey/contest, where it mentioned, "thank you, you will be receiving your Vista CD compliments of Microsoft India."

Beta 2 came with CD keys...if you got a beta 2 cd you're good.

Now I gotta go find my CD...I never installed beta 2 because I heard it horribly memory hogged.

this last release was 5552, (only 1 day after 5536) which is what you get from MS D/L site linked here
RC1 will be 5568, released just after labor day (see dailytech)
anyone who install this with just 8 days to go on RC1 is crazy IMHO
the last X64 was 5472, there are no 55XX X64 builds
The fairly recent beta keys worked for 30 days then nagged for activation
I have some keys, but I dont know how long they will last on this build.
The earliest betas worked until Jan 07

Amazon.com just released the prices for all the Vista versions today: http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/103-019...lias=software&keywords=Windows%20Vista

The beta is the Ultimate edition in case anyone is wondering for price comparison.
Wow, the ultimate edition is much cheaper than I expected (the upgrade version anyway). I hope these prices stay the same, since it is a few months till release yet.

Huh? I thought this WAS RC1. WTF is the big deal of putting out something like this only to suplant it in a week?

Is a key required to install and run this, too? I haven't had any of the previous betas, so I'm starting from scratch. There was nothing on the site mentioning a key as a pre-req.

Try getting the latest version of Microsoft Virtual PC (free) and load Vista there. That way, you can blow it away anytime without upsetting your native PC setup.

Well, unlike beta 2, the buzz on this is really good, so I'm sure Microsoft wants it out there ASAP.

However, I'm with you, I'm not wasting my time with it when RC1 will be out so soon.

NO KEY IS REQUIRED. Just hit enter/next at the key prompt.

But does this limit you to 14 days?

Very good point, I've downloaded this version of vista but i dont want to be limited to 14 days!? Also, it says RC1 in the file name... so isnt this RC1?
