If you go here you can sign up to receive a free iTunes song. Basically sign up using your e-mail address, make sure to de-select the option for being on their mailing list,, and they will send you a code for a free iTunes song. The whole thing is extremely easy and their website is a good browse as well. Enjoy!

They are AAC files, but the extension for a protected AAC file is .m4p

Is that the same format when one rips cd's losslessly? Or is that mp4?

Yep, it should show 1 credit up top after its entered. Just click Buy Now on a song and it uses the credit.

to be honest I am not quite sure, the protected songs are in a "protected" format, which would be different than the lossless format, but I am not sure of the extension for a losssless music file.
