Dead Floppy Connector? (Asus P2B)

Hey guys, I am thinking about picking up an Asus P2B with a possibly dead floppy controller and just wondering if anyone knew how a floppy controller can die and the mobo still work just fine. Anyone know if a bios flash might bring it back or anything of that sort? Please help me out here.

If the floppy controller is dead because of a hardware problem, a new bios flash won't do anything to fix it. The m/b should still survive though. All you'd have to do is go into the bios, disable floppy seek at bootup, and make sure the floppy is never the one to boot up first.
