Already got the game, but it inspired me to start a new game with a low INT and low CHA roll. It's... interesting. The downside is that I can't communicate at all so nobody, even important characters, is willing to communicate with me. In some ways that could be a bonus but I get the feeling that I won't be able to
convince the final boss to commit suicide
with this one.

This would be the Euro version would it not? Which was censored with the kids removed. I think there's a patch to get them back though

Gog is also running a promo for Heroes of Might and Magic 5 and it's 2 expansions bundled with Assassin's Creed for $20. I think both of them are new to the site today, they weren't there the last time i looked.

OK, now I'm confused. Ubisoft, which has the most reputation in the business for user-hostile DRM, is the first major outsider to offer a semi-recent game in GoG?

$20 for Assassin's Creed and soundtrack at this point in time is pretty retarded, though. Regular price in Steam EU is much cheaper. I also note Amazon US has AC and AC2 together for $10, while Amazon UK has AC, AC2 and Brotherhood together for $24. Ubi can't seriously expect to sell AC alone for $20, $10 would be better inline with competition. So, is Ubi thinking ahead to a -50% sale on GoG, or just being stupid?

Well, not just the soundtrack; you also get manual, wallpapers, avatars, "artworks", and art book. Not to mention it's also DRM-free, which is a pretty refreshing change for a Ubisoft game.

I'm not sure if the fact that it's the Director's Cut makes any difference. *shrug*

$19.99 sounds about right for all that though. That's how much it is on Steam and other digital distributors. With the promo going on right now it sweetens the deal, both Assassin's Creed AND Heroes of Might and Magic V for $20 is a decent deal.

Apparently the GOG Director's cut has some additional material in it (from the Conference Call), plus for the ~$20 you also get the Hero's of Might and Magic 5 bundle (HoMM V Gold?) if you buy before April 12.

Yes. There are actually two huge mod packs (can't recall the names, but you can find them easily enough), both of which bring back kids and their ability to die, along with high res support, and many other fixes.

I own both AC and HoMM5 on disk, but bought this from GoG since they removed the DRM.

I remember after installing HoMM 5 on my computer years ago, my CD Writer stopped working because of Securom and I had to reinstall windows to fix it. (I think it never did work again, but I had a regular CD player I used afterward IIRC.)

This game is annoying the hell out of me. Perhaps if I had played it way back then I would understand why people think it's how Fallout should be. I think I'll just stick with 3, NV, and future iterations.

All of those options have DRM so you don't really own the game. With GoG you own it so it’s worth paying more for that IMO.

sactoking's one-liner kinda demonstrates the problem I have with this. If I start paying 500% market price for five-year old games just because they were re-released without DRM, I'm actually encouraging the developers to stick DRM on everything in the future just to be able to charge me more for removing it, and I'm also telling them it's fine to withhold the proper release for years.

If they just removed the DRM as soon as it no longer affects the pirates, and I bought the game at market price at that point, everybody would win.

If it's running slow (with the high res patch), delete or rename the ddraw.dll file in the Fallout directory. This forces it to use the system default version.
Now I can run 16 bit without it crashing on start, and actually navigate.

The original Fallout? But it won't run on Windows 7 (or even XP as I remember). Still AWESOME game.

I'm not sure if the trilogy version(Fallout1+2+Tactics) was updated but it worked on an XPs. Its an awesome compilation with no drm.

Damn, ran into a bug where Katja's carrying capacity keeps decreasing. I reached the point where I couldn't give her anything, even with her inventory empty.
Seems the way around this is to give using the Barter system, which doesn't check for weight.

Fallout has WAY too much loot for the limited inventory.
I think thats why they put in those console codes for F3. And mods for easy housing and inventory sorting.

You will burn in hell for what you've said today! Seriously though depending on what's annoying you it might be resolved by increasing combat speed/setting auto-run on. I could also see why it could possibly not be someones cup of tea too.

Fallout has WAY too much loot for the limited inventory.

You are giving things to your NPC's using Steal, right?
You do have to prioritize, but I think that adds to the game. The mafioso in the Hub regenerates 1000 caps every time you talk to him so you can unload your loot there. Prior to that you can unload a few things by trading for stimpacks which don't weigh anything.
If you're a cash whore you should pick up Tycho in Junktown before you do the Raider camp. All that leather armor...

But seriously, after restarting around 10 times I ended up going through there with a 3 STR character (powergaming tradeoff), so if I can do it without being overly upset about leaving too much behind, you should too.

So what are these two mods we should be installing? I'm out of the loop!

Also, anyone know where the save games are located? I couldn't find them (not in program files or my docs). Win 7 64.
