I leave my computer on, often overight. Almost always it remains much more stable this way then it does when I cold boot. However, leaving the computer on today, I went to lunch and returned to find that it frozen. Holding the power button was the only way for me to restart. Restarting however, there was no *beep* to confirm post, nor did the LEDs change. It starts and remains at FF.

From what I could google, this is either a problem with bad capacitors or the actual CPU frying. I do know my system has long had problems with bad caps, often leading to several warnings when booting from restart. However, this is the first time that I could not recover from a freeze.

Anyone have any other ideas of what may be the problem?
 
Many are leaking, mostly from top although likely a few from the bottom. But these have plagued my system for at least a year now, without too much trouble. Maybe it finally sung its last tune yesterday? 😛

Search for my post about this from around march of this year.

Contact Epox tech support about it. It is a manufacturer's defect. They replaced my caps for free (I paid for shipping).

My board was 2 years old.

Edit: can't seem to find my post about it. Hmmm....
 
your board just failed to bad caps...

also once you seen the caps bulge you should have stop using the board,
becuase bad caps can damage memory, cpu or damage the board as well ..

not always the case but does happen atleast 10% of the time.

 
My PC (with an Epox 8rda mobo) just stopped working today. I did no changes to the PC (i.e., no hardware nor software changes within the last couple of months).

I get no video signal and a "C1" error code on the board. I did a google search and came up the "Blown CAP issues".

I looked at the caps and found 4 CAPs which had "slightly" crowned ends (i.e., the silver metal end with the engraved "lines" going through it seem to be sticking out slightly. Not a lot, but the other CAPs seem to be perfectly flat. These 4 CAPs are very close to the RAM and video card (at the end).

The CAPs look more "pointed" than they actually feel with the hand.

Does my mobo have the "blown CAP" problem?

Sounds like it to me. There are & have been some lawsuits about this. Some manufacturers have settled. Epox should take care of it.
 
Thanks for the info. I just submitted a "support ticket" to Epox. I'm pretty sure my 8rda came with a 3 year warranty (retail) and I found my receipt which indicates the mobo was purchased on 2/5/03. So I should be okay.

I hope they replace the board with a newer board...I don't want to go through this "cap issue" again.
