I went home for lunch, as I normally do and flipped on the analog boob tube.

Imagine my surprise that there was a documentary from the early 1960's playing on Philly's NBC10. I listened to it while I was fixing my sandwich. It turned out to be a documentary done about the city's transportation/transit problems and how the post-war economic boom of automobiles and people was straining the whole transportation network. It was very fascinating. Officials were arguing about what to do and the pro's and con's of each plan. it was pretty amazing to hear how well spoken politicians were in that era, even compared to the best spoken of today's politicians.

I've always been interested in our transportation systems and the design of highways, etc, so to get a chance to hear the debate that preceded the forming of SEPTA was pretty cool. You can see clips of it in the link below. Very well done IMHO and a must watch for any Philly history buffs.

Politicians from back then seem well spoken because they didn't have PR reps telling them to dumb things down.

I was simply stunned that the director of the parking garage authority in Philadelphia could speak a dialect other than Sylvester Stalone...

It was simply amazing to hear how intelligent those people were.
