Something strange happen, here is the story

0. move the computer yesterday...
1. while using computer today, suddenly hear a sound of "metal hitting something" near my pc
2. look around, nothing seems unusal...
3. within 5 seconds, computer reboot, I know something must be wrong so I shut down immediately

4. open up the case, OMG... the WHOLE heatsink fan fell off, no wonder that noise...
5. remount the heatsink fan, and no POST and no video signal, all fan spinning... harddisk cd-rom light on but no beep..

6. I think 99% that my OEM 1G duron is (14 days warranty from TCWO) is dead ? (< 2 months use)

comment, advice...
will credit card company compensate my loss ?
I heard a lot of them has buyer protection/extended warranty...

and why can't AMD like intel, just reduce the cpu speed when overheating ?
too bad my crap ECS motherboard don't have auto-shut off feature ...

Why would someone bother to buy a CPU which could burn itself?
 
Well considering the cost of a 1Ghz Duron (not a big deal...) and as compared to most any 1Ghz Intel cpu... (if you get my drift)... 😉

As for the idea of the credit card protection plan...? hummm...? worth checking into...

BTW yes its fried and future AMD cpu`s & MB`s will have better thermal protection... 😉
