I sat in checkout for the longest time with it in my cart.

I finally triumphed over temptation. 😉

Amen brotha'! We need to support each other in trying to NOT save money by spending it.

I couldn't pass this deal up either. I want to add more memory, will the G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit be a good match for this computer? Thanks
It will work, but since Dells don't have overclocking options, the memory will only run at DDR2 667 speed. You might as well save some money and get cheaper memory.

will this accept 2GB modules? do you have to have a 64-bit OS to take advantage of 4GB?
also, if the board only takes advantage of 667 why did they give the option of buying 800mhz memory? stupidity/greed?

oh and BTW per the dell manual, the q6600 inspiron comes with a 350W PSU not the 300W used with the other models.

My bad; I guess DDR2 800 is the fastest speed this motherboard will run (I'm behind the times on these new Dells).

It does accept 2GB modules. To see 4GB fully, you do need a 64-bit OS; 32-bit OS should see about 3.25GB of memory, maybe a little more.

The PSU information makes sense; I guess the 300W units are only for dual-core CPUs.

no problem, took me some digging to find that the q6600 is different from the other 530's.
they have to upgrade the motherboard and the PSU. which just makes this an even better deal i guess.
now to see if i can find 64bit drivers for everything...

Thanks mordantmonkey,
I'm new to Vista, I've been using XP Pro for the last few years. I knew this deal would not last long and did not want to delay my order while I investigated Vista so I just chose the cheapest one. Looks like dell wanted $120 more for the ultimate version. I can't see a price on MS site until I get the new license from Dell. Do you know what the charge is? I thought about just loading a 64 bit XP Pro.
