And since you think there are other deals that make this one look "bad", do you mind providing links to these "better" deals?

It still comes out to $773 bucks if you pop in a 3.2ghz so its not as hot as when they had the free processor upgrade as well. I am looking to buy another if that comes around again. This 400sc is hot stuff

He did say recent deals...

No, this is the lowest configuration you can get. Except it's a better price. $224 PowerEdge 400SC

Make sure you check the box for the $100 rebate, and add the keyboard and mouse. Also, you have the option of choosing 128M of 400mhz RAM, or 256M of 333mhz RAM. $99 more gets you a 2.4ghz 800mhz cpu for a final price of $323.

If you have any 10% off Small Biz coupons, the final prices drop to $190 and $280.

Can't take credit for spotting this, it was Garsh over at B*g*nshare.

I'm just saying, if there was a good deal less than a week ago, may as well wait a little bit longer (<week) before just jumping on the deal that happens to be the 'best' at the moment. Didn't mean to threacrap.

this is a decent deal on a bottom end system. the previous 400sc deals were better, in terms of value IMO, but then again some people want to spend as little as possible.

I guess that better deal just came around.... :Q

Sorry garsh. I was so busy going through the motions of crediting you that I didn't even think to check the spelling of your name. While we're at it, am I allowed to capitalize it or is it always all lower case? 🙂 🙂

I've heard from a source that there should be another by the end of the year.

The Dual 73GB SCSI drives alone are worth the wait.

Silly question, but are the new Prescott based CPUs going to be compatible with this motherboard/chipset? I was thinking of getting the 2.4Ghz version of this, and potentially upgrading to a new processor later down the road. Wasn't sure if I'd be limited to a Northwood based processor with the board on this.

As you configure the system for a 2.8Ghz processor, the price comes to $523. After sending in the $100 rebate, you are at $423 and you get 256mb or RAM and free shipping.

Wasn't this as good as the previous 2.8Ghz free processor upgrades?

2.8Ghz is nothing to sneeze about. I think this is a pretty hot deal.

But I don't think you can get the $100 rebate and the 256mb RAM...at least that's what it indicates on the configuration screen.

I have questions regarding ordering. when you check out, in the "shipping" page they ask for shipping methid information (carrier name, accoutn #) and tax exempt status. What should I enter? thanks.

I am 99% sure they won't and that is exactly the reason why Dell sells them dirt-cheap.

Leave it blank unless you have your own shipping account and dont want to use the FREE shipping 😉
