This deal looks awesome. $1193 after $200 rebate, before tax. If you don't need the CDRW get the DVD drive and it's $120 less. Free Shipping plus a free Palm m105! Use the 5% off link for Dell Small Business from techb@rgains.com. Immediately hit "Notebooks", "Choose Inspiron" and then configure your Inspiron 8100 up from the cheapest pre-configured system. The $200 rebate is good for all I-8100's with a UXGA display. Get the rebate form here. Use Ebates and get another $30 off. Upgrade your memory elsewhere, it's cheaper. I think this is a killer deal and you get the best Notebook video system (card + screen) available. Too bad there's tax, but still $1287 - $30 ebates out the door- plus the free Palm.....

Very nice deal, if tax is really an issue with you and you'd rather order through Dell Home they do have a $50 off Inspiron 8100 notebook coupon which expires 4/30/2002.

The same system at Dell Home is $1487 after rebate, and coupon, before tax. I have to pay tax in Florida either way. : ( Even with tax it's much cheaper through Small Business, plus you get the free Palm. (E-bay bait). BTW the rebate ends at Midnight tomorrow 4/17/02. Must order before then, or wait and see what Dell has up their sleeves next..

So tempting, but by most accounts this puppy is heavy. I've been waiting forever for them to do a similar deal on a 4100, just to save the weight. I don't mind 32 MB GeForce2Go and 14" screen, I just don't want scoliosis from schlepping this thing around. Come on, give us a good deal on the 4100 next week, Dell. Hrmph. If only Toshiba would put their Windows button in a normal place on the keyboard of the Satellite 3005 series... And stop the clicking HDD. I know, I know, picky picky. But it's a grand, I want it to be right.

I agree. There have been so many people who have ordered a $1,000+ Dell laptop but skimped on the simple $30 built-in NIC, that's one of the first things they regret not getting. Whatever you do remember to get the $30 built-in NIC!

Here's a direct link to the Dell Inspiron 8100 on Dell Small Business.

Damn this is a hot deal but I don't really need a laptop right now.

There will always be another hot Dell laptop deal right around the corner, the trick is knowing when it's the right time to buy and at the right price.

If you want a powerhouse laptop this is an AWESOME deal!

Personally I'm going to wait until the replacement for the new 8200 is announced, THEN I may get a laptop.

Very Very Hot. Yes, the i8100 has true speedstep, although not enhanced speedstep.

I don't think the replacement for the i8200 is going to be announced any time soon :)

It seems to me that it would be pointless to order from the Small Business store, unless the $200 rebate is small business exclusive. Yes, there may be a 5% discount, but in my state (Pennsylvania), tax is 6%, so I would actually save money by buying at Dell Home.

True, since the 8200 is fairly new but I'm just trying to side with the logical side of my brain ... so the impulse side of my brain doesn't win and I end up ordering this laptop.

If only the laptop hard drives were 7200 RPM I'd probably get one to totally replace my desktop, soo many times, the monitor is huge and heavy, the keyboard is big, it would be nice to have a laptop with a gorgeous 15" LCD display, WiFi, etc. I would only need a few wires:
1) USB Mouse
2) USB to printer
3) Power (unless I was away from home, then I would use the batteries, w00t!)

That's it.

Doh I didn't get the NIC. I don't want to slow my order, can I put this in myself? BTW Gabbage Read my second post. It is MUCH more expensive to buy this through Dell Home- even without tax.

Why pay to upgrade the vid for 99 bucks when you can get the 16MB GF2go, pay 150+shipping for a GF4go? 51 bucks gets you a MUCH better vid card, and they can be swapped...

Go to the Delltalk forums or do some searching here or on HardOCP. Plus you can egay the GF2go.

just not enough - damn if only the 4100 would go on sale..

Good god man! What are you doing on that laptop?!? If you need any more than 512MB of ram, you should be getting a desktop anyway, IMO at least.

I believe you need to select modular floppy. It dosen't have on built in. Its a removable device that goes in the media bay. You can take it out and add a second battery there for longer battery life if you want. But get the floppy drive :)
