that is what i want to know too. I plan on getting one of these. Does anyone know - are either upgradeable via buying an installing another card? The 8400m has an option for an 8600m, but is that a motherboard build swap, or is that an add-in? :)

Am I the only one that the very first thing I look at is the monitor on these? XGA? Give me 1680x1050 at least :)

XGA works for me. I really rather not have higher res on a 15.4 widescreen. My gateway is 1200x800 and honestly, its perfect for 15.4" wide. Anything smaller, and I'd gripe about readability issues. Now for gaming - I'd prefer high res, but I guess you could compensate with FSAA.

I just want to know how this stacks against the Vostro and whether or not any of these can get upgraded video.

x1400 SUCKS compared to 8600. 8600 is around 7600/7800 levels while x1400 is around 6200, possibly/barely 6600LE levels.

how does the x1400 compare to the 8400gs? I've been looking for reviews, but all i can find are clock rates, which dont help my desire for real world results. I need to figure out if Its worth it to get the vostro, then is it worth it to upgrade to the 8600GT over the GS. Supposedly both cards are only DDR2 because Dell had to issue "compensation" for mislabeled product according to notebookreview.com.
