DEAD: New one day $40 off $350+ purchase coupon from Dell Home for 11/11/04, from 12am CST to 11:59pm CST. This brings the price down to $649.15 shipped for the 2005FPW widescreen 20.1" LCD with 1680 x 1050 resolution, and just $599.20 shipped for the 2001FP. Both are 16ms total average response time monitors. Both have DVI, VGA, S-Video, & Composite inputs.

The promotions tend to change at 6AM CST or so Thursday morning, so this could definitely change.

Dell Home, so no sales tax collected from most (though not all) states.

Update: Dead at 6am CST, when Dell Home changed their promotions.

Update 2: New coupon code for $45 off $425 for 11/12/04, plus another coupon for 15% off the Dell 2005FPW, 1703FP,1504FP, and E153FP LCD monitors (expires 11/15/04). May expire earlier.

Dell 2005FPW: $799 - 15% - $45 = $634.15 shipped.

Update 3: $45 off $425 coupon now dead.

Most of the time, the black/white/black time is quoted. :)

Wow, that is hot. I was mad for missing the other $609 deal on the 2001FP too. Now, the question is, can I really afford to drop $640 or so (Texas = tax from Dell) on a monitor? ....

Edit: Holy crap, it's $50 tax and not $40! Damn Dell for being based in Round Rock.....:p

Ah what the hell...I'm in for a 2001FP. My birthday is next week and I should be getting some cash, so I can at least sort of justify it. :p :D

Total was $648.63.

a higher contrast ratio is better, right?

Definitely.

It translates to lower black levels (so blacks look more black instead of gray), better shadow detail (so you can see detail in shadows, instead of a uniform black/gray), and often, better colors (though not always).

Found it, but the 20% off is dead in Home and the coupon won't work in SB. Oh, well!

I believe he's referring to the overall lower pixel count of the 2005FPW (very small difference, but the actual pixel count is lower).

what do normal 4:3 ratio games look like on the Widescreen monitor? does it add black bars along the left and right sides?

Normally, they are stretched out, akin to 4:3 TV on a Widescreen TV, but you can force black bars through drivers.

Yeah, it looks like it only worked for a few hours last night, before they actually removed the 20% off. I'm just glad I happened to see this post in that time period. :D

just curious cant someone who doesnt live in a taxed state order it, and have it shipped to another address, let say to somewhere where someone would have to pay tax.

I'd imagine that would be possible, but it's not worth it for me to try it really, since I don't think I know anyone who lives in Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, etc. And even if I did, either driving there to pick it up (Texas is a big ass state :p) or having it reshipped to my address here, would probably end up being somewhere around the original tax amount anyway.
