I wish I had the funds I would be all over the socket a versions for my 2 boys, and one for the wife, to clean up their desks with the huge cases on them. Cant really beat the price considering your getting a case, PSU, MOBO, sound card, video card (socket a one only), card reader, and front firewire and usb hook ups all for under $100. IMO smoking Mofo hot.

Very intriguing. I think it's a little on the ugly side, IMHO, otherwise could be a fun rig. Thanks for the 411, funboy42!

Here's a link I found to a thread somewhere else with what appears to be info about these.

linky

Ok, it appears as though the link above isn't to the exact item, but close enough to get a better understanding of the layout under the hood for me anyway.

Fishhawk... it looks like the picture on the right on the surplus computer site is only a partial picture. If you count the ridges on the front of the case there's only like 12 of them, but when you see the side profile picture there is closer to 30, so I think the optical drive slot is above the card reader.

I don't think so. It looks like there is a separate bay toward the top for a dvd/cd
drive.

That card reader is behind a separate hidden door away from where the dvd drive would go.

Yes - the one picture does not contain the entire front panel.

I looked around at some articles and reviews so I picked up a $45.00 Venice 3000+ from Newegg.com

I have a HDD and video card and DVD drive laying around. Good box for family with the $69.00 Soyo 15.4 LCD.

Thanks funboy

Heh heh, it is so loud, that you can't hear it. Must have a fan controller that goes to 11.

I know of a certain coolmax PSU that does that... *shiver*

I did a google on the model, but can't find any other info or support sites. Where would one get updated drivers, etc?

I'm going to hope for the best...

Really though, drivers for both platforms should be available through NVIDIA's site. The generic platform drivers work best anyways. The only thing you could have trouble with would be LAN/ethernet if its not a standard adapter. Everything else you'll have to add.

Anyone know if you can fit two cards in the PCI/AGP slots? Not sure if it'll accommodates two cards at once because they seem so close -- but the back panel does have two add-in card pop outs. Want to add a video card (obviously) as well as a TV Tuner.

Drivers for the audio, video, lan, and such can all be had at the makers of the stuff like Cmedia for audio, Nvidia for Video, and so forth. As for bios the 2nd post on the 2nd page has links to upgrade the bios but really with that stuff if it isnt broken you dont go messing with it. But aside of maybe the audio and video updates I dont think your really going to need to have to update much more if its working flawlessly out of the box. I had these same ones (not made by this company) but other with the same boards specs with sound and video and they ran solid 24/7 all day long till I sold them, and have kicked myself in the ass for ever selling them. Solid units and I would bet anything these would be just as good.

Good point.

BTW, is the 754 model capable of CnQ like 939? Do I need a specific proc? My XP2500 isn't AFAIK.

Im am a little confused by your question, its coming off as though you want to stick two cards in one slot? I had some sim to these and it will hold a video card, provided it doesnt have one of those huge 2 slot coolers on it, and a tv tuner in mine. Had a 9800 pro and ati tv wonder card to be exact with a small PSU, 200 watt, and it chugged along all day and night without any problems or heat issues either.

some older sff's share the pci/agp on the backplate. I think that is what he's asking. anyone know if the 754 will support a turion? I have an extra laying around.
interesting cooling design btw

I'm asking what mdetz just said. Basically I was worried the PCI/AGP cards use the same "slot" on the backplate of the case; I realize you can't put two cards in one motherboard slot ;). They looked so close I was worried it may be that they shared a rear backplate slot but I found some pics that indicate this isn't the case.

I'm just gonna run a GF 6200 + ATI 550 in it, both pretty thin cards so no worries and shouldn't tax the PSU.

Thanks!

Why bother with a turion? Sell it. No real advantage except *possibly* lower temps/lower power consumption but a venice core 3000+ is only $45 through newegg and probably has the same specs or pretty close.

Would be fun to toy with though :)

edit: and No I'm not sure if it'll work anyway.

I looked and I cant find anything that says or shows you can run that cpu on the nvidia3 150 chipset.

Sorry.

I wouldn't buy this if you do not want all the dogs in the area at your place!:p

I have seen this on Surpluscomps site for a while. Thought about the Socket A as I have several Processors laying around.

I have ordered from them in the past but you might want to be cautious.
Thay have a good Lifetime Reseller rating, but in the last year they have REALLY slipped. Reseller rating
