[*]Link to D-Link DCM-200 at OfficeDepot (item #613594) @ $79.99
[*]Link to $30 MIR (expires March 1, 2003)
- Apply the "$20 off $75 coupon" (find it on your own)
- Add the modem @ $79.99
- Get the $30 MIR

$79.99 - $20 cpn - $30 MIR = $29.99 + sales tax

Note: Should the item become OOS in your area, here's a blurb of mine from a previous thread:

You can search for items in other ZIP CODES (in a different state for example) to get OD's web-site to check inventory in other OD warehouses. This trick only works on the NEW/PREVIEW OD web-site (preview.officedepot.com). The upper right hand corner of this site has a link for "Change Zip," making it easy for you to check other zip codes! :D Anyway, once you find the item in a particular ZIP CODE and have added it to your cart, when you go to check out:

1) DO NOT LOG IN USING YOUR EXISTING OD ACCOUNT. Fill in the ORDER FORM w/ your BILLING/SHIPPING information instead. (This is a feature of the NEW OD web-site -- no need to create an account before ordering)

2) Make sure you punch in your "$xx off $xx" COUPON CODE at the bottom of the order form (and then APPLY the coupon)

After the order's been placed, you have the option of creating a new user account using the info you just entered. It's your choice if you want to create such an account; however, you may not use your existing username on the OLD/CURRENT OD web-site. If you choose to create a new account, you'll be able to check the status of your order. If not, I'm not sure what kind of order status capabilities you'll have.

*EDIT* If you try using the OD inventory exploit listed above, logging in w/ your existing OD account causes inventory to be re-checked in your REAL ZIP CODE.

*EDIT2* If you go for this deal, SAVE THE REBATE FORM NOW. OD has a nasty habbit of removing their rebate forms.

*EDIT3* Removed reference to $25 cpn and "2nd rebate form" as they are no longer applicable.

I stated "see 2nd rebate form" for a reason: it's a $30 MIR, the rebate on the first form is $10. I never said you could go for both rebates.

Both rebates get sent to the same PO Box, so I suppose you can try sending in BOTH REBATE FORMS w/ the SINGLE UPC code in the same envelope and include a letter of explanation; however, given that both rebates are D-LINK rebates, they may reject one of the rebates. Guess which rebate they'll likely reject... yup, the more expensive one. If you do attempt this, in your letter of explanation clearly indicate that if they will not honor BOTH REBATES then you only want the $30 rebate honored. YMMV.

I have one that I been using for 6 months. For most part, this thing will break off connection at least once a day. sometimes more then that.

Anyway, I am coming from a toshiba modem which I rented and liked alot.

An awesome deal for everyone , no matter what. You can get your rental fee back(10bucks/month) in like 3 months. Low risk if you ask me.

Optical, this modem SHOULD work w/ any cable modem service that uses DOCSIS 1.0 compliant cable modems. If there's a local OD B&M in your area, buy and try the modem. If the modem doesn't work, simply return it to your local OD B&M.

FYI, my cable company offers a free cable modem to use so long as I'm subscribed to the cable modem service (i.e. it's a borrowed modem). With that said, here's a great reason why it's anyway worth having your own cable modem:

Every now and then my cable company runs specials/promotions on cable modem service that are only valid on new accounts. I've discovered though that if I cancel my existing cable modem service first and then sign up for it again, I can take advantage of these "new subscriber" promotions. When you're borrowing or renting a cable modem from the cable company, you must first return the modem for this trick to work. That becomes a royal pain in the ass (especially if the cable co isn't located nearby). If however you own your cable modem, cancelling service involves nothing more than making a phone call. I've saved more than the $25 - $30 cost of this cable modem by taking advtange of such promotions. With that said, YMMV!

I have never used OD website before so dont flame me please.

I ordered this item but elected to pick it up at the store because it is close by. Does OD charge my CC before I pick it up? And is the coupon valid for store pick up? Thanks for not flaming the first time OD customer. And thanks for the post.

If you place your order ON-LINE, have applied a COUPON to your ON-LINE ORDER, and then select to pickup the item at an OD B&M:

a) Whatever order total the web-site gives you is what you'll pay when you go pickup your item (i.e. if you used a coupon on-line, the coupon will still be in your order when you go pick it up)

b) I don't know when they actually charge your order; however, I suspect it'll be done at the store.

Bump - This deal is still available, but only until March 1, 2003 (which is when the MIR offer expires).
