If these came with neon glow sticks and lollypops id buy 2 sets. Well bling bling aside these are nice sticks at a decent price AR.
 
I'm thinking about getting a set to replace my regular Ballistix. I have 2 sticks of Tracer, and 2 regular. I find the lights rather useful, and wouldn't mind having them on all of my ram. I don't need it though :^/

Have you ever compared the difference between the heat generated by the two different Ballistix types?

I won't touch Tracers anymore because I quite literally can't touch the Tracers I have when I run them in my system. They get so hot I know they won't last.

Hmm, no I haven't. I have a spare thermal probe I could use to check them. I'll do that in the next day or so and report back.
 
i just got my rebate in the mail from my purchase in december of two of these. they are cool. not to the touch, to look at lol. don't normally fool around inside to see if things are hot or not. so far so good though.
 
I just received mine from Newegg today. It seems to me that the heatsink & thermal tape aren't exactly touching the memory chips. On one side of the memory the heatsink will be perfectly straight and come in full contact with the chips, but on the other side the heatsink is on a slope resulting a fairly big air gap between the sink, the tape, and the memory chips. However I just touched them and they don't run any hotter than my regular Ballistix.
 
Silly claim, they have LED's and don't generate heat! The heat is from the modules that run at 2.2V but they have heatsinks. They do have lifetime warranties and I've never had any problems with my regular Ballistix. This is some of the better memory on the market especially for $40.

Mine just arrived today, 2 closed static bags inside a small cardboard box. I was expecting one of those sealed plastic enclosures but can't complain for $40.

these don't require 2.2v unless you want tighter timings.

the SPD on these goes like this:

333mhz: 4-5-5-15-20 @ 1.8v
400mhz: 5-5-5-18-23 @ 1.8v
400mhz: 4-4-4-12-24 2T @ 2.2v
500mhz: 5-5-5-15-30 2T @ 2.2v

i have mine running 400mhz 4-4-4-12-24 @2.0v completely stable.
this is the exact same stuff as the non-tracer ballistix that i had before i got these in this deal. (just got them yesterday)

the rebate allows for 2 kits at the same address etc. so i got 4gb for $80 AR.

mine were the same way. i just squeezed them real hard between my fingers before installing them. the tape held and the heat spreaders are now flat & touching all chips.

That's kind of interesting. In general, most of the RAM I've had, the heatspreaders are almost crazy-glued to the chips with the thermal adhesive strips. The downside with that is that you can't see the markings on the chips without making it obvious that the heatspreaders were tampered with (and thus voiding any manufacturer warranty).

The sloppy heatspreader application might just be Crucial's way of showing off and saying that they've got nothing to hide, and that you're free to peek under the covers 😉.

Edit: Out of curiosity, did you guys see the expect markings on those chips? There have been some rumors going around that Crucial has been using different chips on the Ballistix, so it'd be interesting to put that rumor to rest, either way.
 
Crucial is great on rebates, they have the fastest turn around on rebates I've come across. I mailed one in the beginning of December and got it last week.

i tried to give mine a quick "pry" motion but they weren't budging much. so i stopped out of fear of damage, and or having them pop off and have to deal with getting the clips back on. those look like a PIA to re-install.
 
I chatted online with Crucial tech support 2 months ago. He said that most of the time the Ballistix uses Micron D9 chips, but not always.
