First my laptop dies (going to RMA the drive tomorrow):
Now after getting home after 20 or so days, my computer is dead:
I booted up the computer fine, but after several unsuccessful attempts at signing online, I restarted the computer, then once more and at that time while signing online the computer just restarted by itself. I figured, no big deal, probably overheated and rebooted. Problem is after the BIOS screen, the screen just goes black, there's still a signal since my monitor still has a green over the orange standby light, but there's no activity on the screen. And right from bootup there is constant activity on the harddrive. Nothing I never ran into before.
Problem now is, this is new, I push the power button, I hear my scanner powering up and boom, computer just dies. I figure, okay maybe I blew the powersupply somehow because nothing happens when I press the power button. But looking at the mobo, the green light is still on. Any ideas? I'm really hoping it's just the power supply. I was going to upgrade it anyway. But since the mobo light is on, I'm guessing the powersupply is still working?
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I have a Portege3020ct and recently installed a new IBM 20gb drive two weeks ago. Last night I shut it down and today, when I booted it up, after the BIOS screen (Powered by Toshiba) it was stuck on the black screen for longer than usual. WAAAAY longer than usual, but the harddrive light was still on although I couldn't hear a thing when I put my ear to the harddrive. So, I rebooted the computer, and that's when I got the above message. So my question is... what now? Is the harddrive dead? Or is the controller dead? This was really sudden, never had any minor problems leading up to this. I don't even have my floppy drive on me to see if I can boot into DOS to see if I can access the harddrive that way. Now when I start the laptop, the harddrive light never comes on.
