i just grabbed this from microcenter and i have a question..

when i install the powerchute plus software its unable to monitor the ups. is it becuz its not compatable with XP or is it something else? i checked the log and it says its connected okay to the UPS so i dont get it.. i'm d'l the business edition or whatever which is compatable with XP but its only coming in at about 10k so it'll be about an half hr or so.. you'd think they'd have more bandwidth.... anyways.. will this fix it??

*okay while waiting i uninstalled the software and noticed the power thing in control pannel. on the UPS tab it says cannot communicate with UPS... i checked my comm ports in device manager and it says they are all working w/o conflicts.. whats the deaL? i'm gonna go dig up a serial mouse and test the comm ports now..

**okay i installed the new software and still no go.. i plugged in a serial mouse and no go.. i think my comm ports just aint goin.. any tips on how to fix?? it says its okay in device manager.. i have all the xp updates.. i dun get it.. please if you could help me i'd be very greatful..

Thanks
smokey

Make sure you have PowerChute Plus version 5.2.3. Also make sure the com port you are trying to use is enabled in the BIOS. Windows XP always has a problem with APC serial UPS's not connecting right away. If your UPS is detected during setup it is probably working. Start PowerChute then go to "System" then "Monitor different server" if it's listed in there just double click on it. If it's not then you have a problem.

BTW, what model UPS is it and what mother board are you trying to connect it to?
