[DEAD]Chieftec Dragon Silver Full Tower - $29.97+S/H at TigerDirect

These are nice cases, I don't think I would go with one if I was worried about cooling issues though. Good deal on a decent case.

Five case fans won't cool a case?
It's close to a chopper gunship.

No it's not the fans that aren't enough I just don't think it's the best for that if you read up on some of the reviews, I think that there are some other options out there for serious cooling with cases. examples:
Antec Performance One
MGE XG Quantum
MGE Sidewinder

All good cases all diferent price ranges, the sidewinder is a good price< I think it's out there for around $45 if you search enough. I am by no means saying this case listed in the thread is not a great deal it is!!!! The case just isn't the greatest if you are looking to cool some serious stuff, but I guess that's not what the post was for anyway.

I've got two of these cases running right now and couldn't be happier with the cooling. I set both up with two 90mm Maddog Whisperfans for intakes on the door, two 80 mm Coolermaster silent fans for intake in front and two Artic Cooling 80mm Artic Fan 3 in the rear for exhaust. I removed the fan holders in the rear and mounted the Arctic Cooling fans with zip ties and washers. The two side intake fans are mounted with fan isolators from Silicon Acoustics. My Athlon64 3200 runs at 31C idle, 36C load with a system temp of 27C. (Heatsink is an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64) Plus, with all the quiet fans, the loudest thing in my case is the Antec 430W power supply.

Why is the power supply mounted 90 degrees on this case? I've seen pictures of full tower cases from Antec etc...where the ps is mounted like most cases..horizontally.

All of these "cheap" (price) Chieftec full-tower cases that TigerDirect are selling, are this way. They have some sort of non-standard PSU mount on them, the standard one is horizontal. Perhaps that's why TD can sell them so cheaply, they may be surplus, intended for a custom OEM or something. Due to that non-standard PSU mounting bracket, I was unable to get my 520W TTGI/SF PSU to mount properly, it was about 1.5mm off. I mounted the 360W Chieftec with no problem though, although that one doesn't have enough molex leads for my planned application.

So if anyone knows where to get a "proper" horizontal PSU mounting-bracket for these things, cheaply, please post, thanks.

Also, more than likely, the picture is slightly incorrect, the case that I actually recieved, had *two* side-panel intake vents, with one fan mounted.

Edit: For more good info on these cases, do a search for "Chieftec" in the Hot Deals forum. All the details of past threads are there.

Hmm, they still have a blue mid-tower model with an "Ultra 300W" PSU, clear side-panel, front-panel USB/firewire, for $60 here.
Not quite as hot a deal as the full-tower, and I question the ratings on that PSU, but for those running lower-end systems it would likely be fine.

Oh, they do also still have three of the mid-towers for $30, check here, including one model with clear side-panel and front-panel USB here.

I was stunned when I saw my internal temps drop a full 8c with the case over a mini/mid tower that I had been using. The only change was the stock 92mm fan on the side of the case door. I added three CoolerMaster 80mms (one in each drive bay to cool the drives and one for rear exhast) and the temps dropped another 2c. From 40c all the way down to 28c. This is in my PVR which has three drives and two opticals and a Tbred 2000+. Great case for those that need the space !

Edit: if its OOS, keep a close eye on it, as this original sale had the cases OOS in less than a week, only to come back in stock within another week.

if anyone is in the SF Bay area and wants to pick up mine, he can do so (at my cost)....the case is bigger than i expected 🙁

Same thing happened to me with the blue cases. I'm either gonna have to sell it or modify my desk so it will fit.
