I heard a lot of hype about this game but I didn't really get it, even after watching videos of it. Since I have a trip coming next weekend and I needed a game to play on my flight I decided to give Dead Cells a go so I snagged the physical copy this past weekend for Switch and finally tried it out last night. I ended up paying the extra $10 for the physical copy since I prefer physical and also in case I didn't like it I could sell it.

After "getting it" and understanding the mechanics of the game and what you keep after you die, I can now see why people are loving this game. The control is very tight and it has a great art style and classic vibe to it, with sound to match.

I did hear about some performance issues on Switch and I have encountered it a few times so far. It's not game breaking but it is kind of jarring when it happens but it still didn't really have an effect on anything that killed me (yet at least). It like freezes for a few frames and then when it unfreezes, it will act as if it never froze as far as where your character is. So it basically just like jumps a few frames forward after freezing for a couple frames. Very odd and the devs are aware of it and said they will have a patch for it, but by November at the earliest.

I think this will be a fun game to play on my flights. I still have some of Toad Treasure Tracker to finish too but I probably have like an hour or two left in that game. Other than that, this should hold me over.

I wanted to buy it on the PS4 but finally caved and bought it on the Switch. I don't regret the move at all but yes there is some performance issues. It's nothing too bad though, some slight lag here and there but overall it runs well. I play it with the Pro Controller since I don't really like the Switch controller (weird button config plus they're small).

The main reason I bought it on the Switch is to be able to play it everywhere.

It's a cool console that lacks "good games" imo but i'm glad I bought it. I'm hooked to Octopath Traveler for now, I highly recommend it!

I've played this game quite a bit and I still feel like I've gotten nowhere lol. But something about this game is freaking addictive. The art style and animation in this game are just top notch. The sound is perfect as well. I love everything about this game. But damn it is punishing. When you just die out of nowhere after a good run it is very demoralizing lol. It's just like ... damn, all for nothing lol.

I still only have like one or two permanent runes and I know that there are at lest 2 more because there are ground pound things I know I can't do yet to go down certain areas, and there's areas that I can't jump up to yet too. I've only gotten to the second boss one time so far and got like 1/2 of his health down. It was a while ago too so I don't even really remember his pattern lol.

Same here man...same here hahahaha
Like you say, it's an awesome game and experience that is equally punishing...I think that's what awesome about this title.

Same with Slay the Spite (on PC) and other rogue-like games!

I was on a really good run last night and just beat the Concierge and he dropped this high level oil bomb that I had never seen before. Then on the next level, the first bat I saw exploded right in front of me and I got hit by another enemy and died instantly. It made me feel like crap lol.

This game is like crack I find myself playing it for 10 minutes here and there on Switch and just putting it down. I now bring my Switch to take a crap instead of my cell phone and end up taking longer than necessary lol. I finally got past a part I couldn't get by tonight and felt great about it, but then my Switch died so I have to finish it up tomorrow.
