I have the iP2000 from the Target Clearance deal ($29.99) and I love it. I wonder how much better this 3000 model is...

I got the ip4000 last month on an OD special with a $20 coupon for about $100. It has one more black cartridge, but otherwise I think they are the same. Incredible photos. Text is so-so, I have to try some more papers. Very frugal on the ink, compared to my older S900 which clogged up.

I have this printer. Picked it up from a staples deal a while ago for $65 shipped/tax.
Good low end photo printer from everything I read and it has worked fine so far. I haven't printed any pictures yet, but might stop by staples to get some photo paper to print this weekend.

What do you mean? Where can you get in any cheaper?

I think he means dont be fooled by the price that its a low quality printer.

Another great printer is the Canon IP1500 $50 shipped and only 2 ink carts that you can buy for $1-2 each.

iP1500/ip2000 have only two ink tanks - one black (dye based) and one tri-color. Ink volume is small but great for folks that don't print a lot. iP2000 is slightly faster than the 1500 and looks more like its big brothers. iP1500 is/was at the top of PC World's general purpose printer list, but largely based on price.

iP3000 has 4 ink tanks (one for each color) - black is pigment based for better text - can make photos look a bit dark/dull. Much larger ink volume per color than the 1.5k/2k. Has auto 2-sided printing - cool but slow - quicker to do it the old way. Has two paper bins/paths can stock either two types of paper and change at the flip of a switch or stock with the same paper and set it to automatically switch when one bin runs out. Output tray can hold only 50 sheets or so. So if you use two bins/same paper, you have to stand by to keep the output bin empty.
. This is the one I have - would have liked the 4000 but this was too cheap (Staples double rebate + gift card deal) at the time - about the same price as this newegg deal. Works great. See my review here: http://www.techimo.com/reviews/ under printers...

iP4000 has 5 tanks - adds a dye-based black so photos should look a bit better. Is a bit faster (but you'd probably never notice) and also has a parallel port - yahoo! If you aren't a photo perfectionist or detail obsessed, you do print a lot of text and you can afford it - this is the one!

iP5000 is the same as 4000 but has twice the resolution. $50. more for the detail obsessed.

iP6000D has 6 tanks - 6 diff colors - all dye based. Also has memory card slots and a view screen. Yer typical photo maven's printer.

iP8500 has 8 tanks - 8 diff colors - all dye based. No mem card slots or view screen. Your photo obsessive's printer >$300...

And I think there is some variation as to what size borderless prints can be printed - some can do 4x6, some add 5x7 and others do the others plus 8x10...

>> Be sure to DL the latest drivers from Canon's site while you are waiting for yours to arrive - they do make a difference. <<

Replaced my HP 5550 with the IP 3000.

Great performance. Cheap carts.

And the European model also prints CD/DVD covers.

They seem to have omitted this function on the US model.

Can this printer do direct CD/DVD printing? I've read some reviews/sales ads that say it can but they all appear to be Australian or UK based. I wonder if it is capable of printing directly on disks but does not come with the carrier for the US version or something like that.

I've heard that the Euro versions can print CD/DVDs and some of the stuff is on these to mock you like the little flip down door in the middle of the front that a CD would just fit through. The new driver also has a "media abrasion protection" setting that allow for thick media (hmmm...).

Also the shipped price was $62.94 last night and today when I checked. Still a great price!

I believe you need a special tray to do CD/DVD printing. The reason why it wasn't included in the U.S. model is because they didn't want to pay Phillips licensing fees.

I also have this printer and it is very nice. I had an Epson C80 and lines started appearing in the printouts and would take a couple times with the cleaning utility to clear it up. This would happen about once a week too. Anway, I printed out some 4X6's with the IP3000 and they turned out nicer than I expected. If you want a true photo printer, get a higher model, but this works great for the occasional photo. I also love how the print cartridges are clear, so you can actually see how much ink you have left. They came full with the printer too, which rarely happens now. There are so many other small details I love about this printer, like the fact you can make it run in quiet mode between certain hours.
