Canon imageCLASS LBP6000 Mono Laser Printer

Looks like Staples is clearing this old laser model. I'm sure this is bottom of the barrel type stuff but the reviews on both Staples and Amazon are pretty d@mn respectable. Heck it's better than buying an Inkjet cartridge that's sure to dry up within months. Ships FREE.

The toner for this is the canon 125. The OEM toner replacement is about $60 for 1600 pages. You can find replacements for these for about $18 to 30 that are refilled 3rd parties. Currently Amazon has some 3rd party refill for less than $14 but very little in stock.

Remember when you go third party you may get a lemon, subpar quality, or equal quality as the OEM toner. It is hit or miss.

How does Canon printers fare compared to Brothers', maintenance-wise? I was looking at Brothers' HL-2240 when I caught this thread. I need to replace my dad's printer and all he needs is a simple black and white. Nothing fancy necessary but I would prefer low maintenance, e.g., durability and lower-cost cartridge that is easy to acquire.

I've had good results on my Xerox with Meritline's cheapest compatible cartridge... $20 for the one that fits the Canon. My Xerox reports it as OEM and print quality is equal.

I have a Canon 4150 I have used for 7 years without fanfare. I use the OEM carts (#104) from eBay for around 12.00 apiece and it's been fine.

This printer use the newer 125's but you can get them on eBay for <16.00 shipped for one or <30.00 for two.

Personally, I have no experiences with Canon's laser printers. Only Inkjet and those I thought were superior to HP's offering. My current workhorse printer is a Brothers' HL-2040 which has served me quite well for the last few years. I don't expect this cheap Canon one to match the HL-2040 in performance. If it lasts more than a year, it would still serve its price point quite well.

I would hold for the brother lasers as well for the same price point. The Brother toner/drum cartridges are cheap as well so you dont get burned when the trial toner/drum runs out that you generally get with a new printer.

Hell, I'd take a bottom of the barrel laser over nearly all inkjets. For less than the cost of an entire fresh cartridge and drum of most laser printers, this thing would pay for itself in service life.

Agreed with Mitch101, I love Brother printers.
