So I get this eMachine from him and he said it won't boot. For what ever reason he changed the internal battery on the computer...not sure if he had it unplugged when he did it or not.

Anyways I took the battery out (while the box was unplugged) for three hours and put it back in. Still nothing.

The box powers up appropriately, CPU fan spins up. No drives spin up when plugged into the board. But if the devices are just plugged into the PS they work fine.

Is the board dead ?? or is there anything else I can try ? I think it is probably dead but don't know what else to try.

I have an extra Athlon xp 1600 CPU laying around but don't want to go through the hassle of changing it out if it is probably dead anyways. Right now it has a Athlon xp 2200 in it.

I took out the RAM too and it didn't change the outcome

Any advice is appreciated...

If you didn't get any memory error beeps without the memory, then the board is probably toast. It may or may not have taken other components with it, like the memory and CPU.

I see...well I didn't get any error beeps...the harddrive and optical drives all worked when powered up...off the board...didn't check the cpu or anything else...

guess I won't invest any time in getting it fixed then
