Dead bird or dead mobo?

Well i just have the no video problem from an AK31 rev2.
But i cant be sure if its the mobo or the video or something else.

The system was working fine for three months, when i felt the urge to change the wire connections on my CD roms and i nudged the 8045 a bit, then after that, no video.

I just traded my spare tbird, so ican t be sure if its the processor. But the fan on the northbridge is still running as is the other peripherals(CD-Roms and the HDD's). The keyboard lights up on boot, floppies light on, just no video.

Ive tried removing the battery, clearing the CMOS, unplugging the power supply, and still no video.

Please all suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

Have you had a chance to put in another video card? or do you not have a CPU at the time to test?

do you get any beep codes? Try reseating the video and ram.

Since you mentioned you nudged the HS/F a couple of things seem to increase in probability. 1.you unseated the HS/F from making proper contact with the CPU(although with the screw in mounting that should require more than a nudge) and it has resulted in overheat failure which may or may not have fried your CPU. 2. When you nudged the HS/F you slightly altered the CPU's seating in it's socket. I would suggest removing the HS/F, reseating the CPU and remounting the HS/F. This ofcourse is in addition to the sugestions of reseating the ram and AGP. Oh, I almost forgot to ask, did the CPU you have now ever work before this? or had you just installed it?

Thanks for the suggestions peeps, i really appreciate it.

To answer the queries and suggestions.

Ive tried another video card. Same thing
I dont have another Tbird, so i cant be sure if its fried or the mobo is toast.
Ive removed everything(PCI cards, RAM;damn 8045 is a pain to install/re-install), checked the CPU for any visible burn marks or something.Nothing i can visibly see is wrong.
No beep codes of any kind.
Tried booting out of the case, with only the mobo, RAM, video card and power supply hooked up. Same result.
I have now removed the battery, placed the pins for clearing the CMOS at 2-3 and am hoping a miracle happens:DMaybe a longer duration without the battery does something. I did saw over at AMDMB forums that someone tried this and it somehow worked.

Im leaning towards a dead motherboard, because like i said the fan on the northbridge is still running when i boot up, just no video. Im thinking if its the processor, the fan shouldnt be running at all. Can anybody confirm this theory?

More likely a CPU probs...the no beep is the evidence. To confirm this, u'll hv to get another CPU to tried out.

A mobo can still hv all the fan spinning w/ a dead CPU inside. While a dead mobo might
1. Not hv any spinning fans
2. failed to power up
3. beep in certain patern & etc.

Yes, I'm digging for answers as I have been experiencing the same problems you were(also tried all of the tips I could find without success). I greatly appreciate your answering, as now I know what to RMA to Newegg(Soltek SL-DRV4). :)

Thanks again,
