[dead] BFG ES-800 $71.99 AR FS

Which reviews ? Most reviews I've read have had nothing but praise for this unit. If its the Newegg reviews you mention, then I too have read about quality issues with batches of BFG PSUs. Either way, every vendor has bad batches, but I would trust a BFG power supply to run my rig an day of the week. If it powers up new out of the box, you should be good for 5+ years of troublefree service at the least.

Edit: Amber, stop with these deals. You have emptied my wallet for the foreseeable future at this point !! I don't NEED this PSU, but I WANT it .. :brokenheart:

$#&!#@

I got in on the $90AR deal but still haven't used it yet. Grrr! Figures. I now have an overpriced still-shrinkwrapped UPC-less BFG ES-800 PSU in my garage.

:|

Maybe I should buy another one at this price?

😕

Seems as if the owners of every single failed unit posted a neg review at Newegg. Nice. There is no consumer product that has a 0% failure rate, and the ES-800 is not exempt from that. However, it is also not "a 50% failure rate" as posted by one of the reviewers.

Also, there is one review (third from oldest) that was not for an ES-800, but for an older model. The user even told us that he made a mistake in posting regarding the wrong unit. However, Newegg will not remove the review because they don't want to be thought of as moderating reviews (which IMO is BS because a while back I posted a review of a product that never appeared). Potentially other people have made the same mistake because until recently, the older model was still for sale. They looked almost the same except for the fan (though internally quite different). So, if someone had a problem and goes back to post a neg review on an 800W BFG PSU, this one comes up now because the other one is deactivated.

True story: my test rig at work has one of these units... and it was a returned one. Put it in my test rig to see if it worked, and kept it ever since. It can almost run THREE GTX 280... does for a while but then shuts down either to heat or OCP. Not bad for 800W.

EDIT: CRAP! Deal looks dead. Probably the new code showed up before they raised the price back up so there was a bit of overlap. I seriously was thinking of buying one.

:Q Don't let Jonny hear you say that!

Expect a PM from me when I pay off this GTX280. If you do plan on selling it, I call dibs. Then I'll go on Newegg and post a glowing review to offset the negative ones 😀
