I've been running this on Tomato for a few weeks. No issues.

Note: Has gigabit LAN and WAN, but does not have connection nor speed lights. Might be why it's so cheap (that plus crappy Belkin firmware :p )

From a thread @ SD :

Note: I have not flashed either of the two Belkin routers directly from the upgrade firmware page. I booted to the CFE updater (hold in WPS button on this router while plugging in power cable. Go to 192.168.2.1 (or might be 192.168.1.2, don't remember)) and updated from the CFE updater.

From all reports installing custom firmware such as the OP suggests is the key to maximizing these routers value.

If you are looking for a decent wireless router out of the box or using a Belkin firmware, stay FARRRRRRRRRRRR away from this thing. I bought this 2 weeks ago and it's TERRIBLE out of the box. No really...it's that bad.

If you want to upgrade to DD-WRT/ Tomato then I guess go for it.

I got it and setup was easy. Connected with no problems to

2 wireless printers, one HP, one Brother
2 laptops, one HP, one Dell
one desktop
2 Touchpad tablets
2 Tivos
1 Biscotti HD videoconferencing system.

Works fine so far.

I have the model right above this one (N600+, I think) and it rocks with Tomato installed. Belkin firmware is pretty bad, but it runs like a champ with Tomato. Zero issues, dual-band, and excellent throughput.

According to this

http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=78042&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

The firmware you posted only supports 2.4Ghz. Is there anything else needed to enable 5Ghz as well?

Thanks.

DD-WRT may only support 2.4GHz but the Tomato link at the bottom (Shibby's Tomato) supports both bands simultaneously as well as adding multiple SSID's (guest ID's, VLAN's, etc). DD-WRT is only used to get this ready to load Tomato. DD-WRT may have been upgraded to support dual band but I don't use it enough to really know. Sorry.

Are you using the Belkin firmware, Tomato or DD-WRT?

How are the speeds, stability and signal strength for you?

I'm using it as a 5GHz source (I have other 2.4GHz router's for that). My distance isn't that far but it is going between floors. Strength looks good but I've never investigated it enough to know what every number means. I do know that I get between 12MB (Megabytes) to 20MB per second on PC to PC transfers using it. Very pleased with that number, especially for what the unit cost. I only wish I had found it and bought 2 of them instead of the Belkin N300 that I bought several weeks before.

Obviously, I'm using Tomato (Shibby version 101). I love Tomato.

Followed your instruction and flashed successfully in 15 minutes, great thanks!

Tomato > DD-WRT
DD-WRT > Tomato in my experience, at least with other routers. I had occasional lockups with Tomato installed which I did not experience once I switched to DD-WRT. Of course, that was a year or two ago and with different models of routers, so it may be different with this router.

Tomato stability has improved greatly since then, especially on the newer generation of routers.

WRT54G here, Tomato works flawlessly. I will not buy a router that isn't Tomato/DD-WRT compatible anymore.

Tomato for the WRT54G (older generation based on K24 kernel of Linux) has been stable for years. The newer K26 version had bugs in it a few years ago but those have been slowly knocked out. A few new ones appear now and then as new features are added but they are generally knocked out quickly. I really like the shibby version of Tomato as it's been rock solid for me but I've read lately that Toastman's version is just as stable and has better QOS. Might have to look at that one again soon.

Oh, and I don't buy any router that's not Tomato compatible, period (as of right now....will evaluated that as time and technology goes on).

I have successfully hooked up a 80G USB drive to the router, and setup file sharing and media server. But I can't get the BitTorrent GUI to work. All I have done is to check "Enable torrent Client" and "Enable GUI". The default port is 9091, and I also turned the windows firewall off. When I tried to access, I always get the error message of "Unable to connect".

Did I missing something? Do I have to install anything else?

Thanks
