you're telling me, must resist... pair this up with that kingston valueram 512 meg pc3200 stick for 68$ ...

I have this very lonely biostar m7ncd pro board that needs a cpu. Don't know if the 2400 Mobile would be better...

166 MHz Barton.

I also saw this on Saturday, listed on Pricewatch in the 133 MHz catagory, with the part number Monarch uses for the 166 MHz chip. Nice to see a decent reseller with the best price.

barton 2500+ and 2500+ arnt just 100mhz difference, the fsb of the 2400+ is 266 and the fsb on the 2500+ is 333.

but then again if you go for the 2500+ you would want ram that does 333fsb(166 clock), youll only notice the difference in games and stuff that actually uses it though.

not bad, thanks OP...good find.

i usually buy the fry's combos when they have a barton with an ecs for about $79 - and sell the ecs.

pick up a speeze whisper rock II from newegg if you need a good hsf

Also the Barton has 512K cache (L1/64K+64K; L2/512K
)as opposed to 2569L1/64K+64K; L2/256K)...unless it's the 2400XPMobile which is the same as the reg. Barton but runs @ less v's.

I've been away from CPUs for a while. Are there any particular steppings that are better than the others for this processor? I'm thinking OC.

Thanks.

Oh yeah, on the "locked" issue, don't nForce boards "unlock" the chip?

Nope. What nForce boards did was allow you to work with old unlocked chips. Pretty much all AMD chips anymore are locked (except the FX 64 chips which they're keeping unlocked). Looks like AMD decided that they got tired of people OC'ing and burning chips up then sending them back (or their vendors having to do that).

Thanks for the reply Jaxidian.

Would you happen to know what the week code is for the last unlocked batch?

What a sexy FSB.

I suppose it's still better to go with a mobile XP OC'd to between 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz.

Well this stinks....I just built a machine and paid $80 for this chip. Never fails :| (Of course it's only $15, but for a true HD, that's a lot! ;) )
