(DEASD)CenDyne 32x12x40 (#482877) for $99.99 - $20 rebate - $20 off $100 Staples coupon = $59.99 at Staples

For Staples coupons do a search on Google.com key word "Staples coupons"

Also officeMax has the 32x CenDyne on for $129.94 - $40 MIR - $25 coupon = $64.99, so if you can find a manager who doesn't know the OfficeMax PM rules it could be possible to PM the Staples price and get it for $30 cheaper. YMMV Link to OfficeMax 32x CenDyne thread

So far poeple who own the CenDyne 32x drive have identified the rebadged mfgs as Lite-on, verbatim (Rebadged Lite-ons) and Mitsumi (16Mb Buffer and supports the 'Mt. Rainier' format).

To identify which rebadged drive is in the Cendyne box look at the serials # on the top right label at the back of the box.

Lite-on 32x mfg drive have 12 digits, no letters - Sample (123456789012)
Verbatim 32x mfg drive have 12 digits, no letters - Sample (123456789012) (seem to be rebadged Lite-on 32x drives)
Mitsumi 32x drives have 22 digits mostly numbers -Sample (CR-123ATE45678A12QH9012). Also says 16BM buffer on the box

Here's a head to head comparison of the Lite-on and Mittsumi 32x drives Link to 32X roundup

Chances are, the rebadged Mitsumi will have a 2Mb buffer. Mitsumi ceased production of the 16Mb buffer a while ago, but both models (2Mb and 16Mb) have the same serial. I actually bought a rebadged CenDyne, and Nero reveals that the buffer is 2Mb. Mitsumi confirmed this. Just a warning...

OK, maybe I'm suffering from temporary blindness but where is the drive you speak of in the ads? All I see is a 24x Sony drive.

When does the rebate start?

If it is the day of the sale then what happens if we purchase this today? I remember Staples taking the item back and then reselling it to me so I could use a rebate once.

Is Staples good with their rebates?

YMMV, but I purchased the 32x Cendyne CDRW drive for $129.99 and the SPIN-X 100 pack of CDRs for $39.99 earlier this week at
Office Max. I then used the $30 off $150 staples coupon. Then take off the $30 and $40 rebates which leaves you with:

$129.99 + $39.99 - $30 - $30 - $40 = $69.98 + tax

Staples (as does Circuit City) already has the drive for $99.98. Tomorrow I am heading back to Office Max to take advantage of the 115% price protection (already called and confirmed I could do it), so that is:

$69.99 - 1.15*30.01 = $35.47 + tax

Not bad.

With a little more work and waiting, you can get it to $5.47 + tax. In another thread you can find the Discover card offer where you get a $35 credit after you make your first purchase. I did this as well.

20% off $100?
That is something I don't see among Staples coupons and by the way the drive is not $100. Plus there are some taxes as well.

Yes, it is $99.99 but you need to add something like a box of paper clips to bring the total over $100.00. You can find the coupon code online as mentioned earlier, but it does not say 20% off, it says $20 off of $100.

It would be better if there is printable $20 off $100 coupon since the cdrw drive will be gone fast from staples.com.

Thanks for the "anand rules" pointer. I did not know that posting a code is so "dangerous." Hey, you learn all the time.
This "deal" stinks.
Search, hope for coupon, wasten more time filling up forms, taxes, buy additional stuff ...
All that for $60+ rewriter with dubious trademark?

You go to Dell and get LiteOn 40x rewriter for $20 more hassle free and without wasting time.

The online add reads:

<SPAN class=detailDescription>? 32x write, 12x rewrite, 40x read maximum speeds
? 33% faster than 5400 RPM drives
? Now $99.99 - $20 mail-in rebate = $79.99</SPAN> <SPAN class=detailItemNumber>#482877</SPAN> <SPAN class=detailMfrNumber></SPAN>

33% faster than a 5400RPM drive? This must be the fastest CDRW on the planet!!! :Q

The actual "print" ad reads the same. Got mine this evening and the same misprint is there. Oops!

Also, I got a quick look at the box of one of these at my local B&M and while I didn't see the serial number, I did see a model number listed as "LTR" with about 6 digits after it. Isn't the LTR a Lite-On drive?

i would try the officemax pricematch suggested above. but if you are going to get this drive from officemax, make sure to wait till this sunday. if you go to their site, the rebate is listed already, but if you read the rebate form, you'll see that it doesn't start till 4/28/02.
