Hi

I have a portable AC in the room and i live in the basement . The other day I think I heard something crawl through the hose tube thing that connects to the AC to the window. As I'm sure you know that for portable AC a long hose is required to be connected to the AC unit on one end and the other end is connect to opening on the window to exhaust the hot air . The other day I think I heard something crawling in the hosing , all of a sudden the fan starts making a weird noise like it hit something but then it passed. A day later I had been using my AC and nothing smelled until I turned it off overnight and turned it back on a few hours later and a horrible smell started filling the room . I'm pretty sure it's a dead animal because when I put a flashlight through the opening that the hose would be connected to on the AC , I see a fan and it has like something all over it . Like a mush or crud
I'm assuming a rodent or something crawled through the tubing straight into the fan ? Is there a way to clean this !? Should i attempt to try to open it myself or do you think it is a risk and i might mess it up or should i pay someone to clean it !? and if i do what kind of service would do this kind of job?
Help please ! And thank you

so you're saying a mouse popped into your air conditioner?
Well it did not just pop in there. Since i live in the basement, the window i use to exhaust the hot air is very low on the ground so it is extremely easy for a rodent of some sort to just crawl in there.

Disconnect the hose at the back of the unit and see if you can find the corpse. Probably want to wear gloves and a mask for that part. And you might consider cutting a small piece of chicken wire to put over the exhaust outside so something similar doesn't happen again.

Chicken wire won't stop mice-it's amazing how small a space they can crawl through. Use metal window screening.

It sounds like the corpse is now a viscous brown fan-blade coating.

Might be time for a new AC unit?

Put a fine mesh grille over the hole next time so things can't crawl in.

We need pics of the AC unit. With you standing next to it. For scale, obviously.
