This is a particularly nice bundle because the included 4GB memory stick is DDR3 1866 and the memory controller of the A6-5400K can use all of speed in single channel.

Rebates expire 10/31/2014

P.S. Tiger Direct also has two (one time use) $10 off $100 order discounts available (both expire 10/31/2014). Using one of these would bring the price down to $79.99 AR free shipping.

IMO that processor is only good for a basic home computer/video streaming computer, and I would not use it for anything more than that. Still a smoking deal though, considering you can throw a 120g SSD on there for another ~$55-$60, and a inexpensive case/psu for ~$40. So $180 for a nice budget build.

It should play less demanding games (under Windows) fairly well.

For example, I would expect this particular combo to outperform Athlon 5350 on Team Fortress 2 under Windows. (In my testing, Athlon 5350 with single channel 4GB DDR3 1600 still manages to get at least 30 FPS average on 1080p low in TF2 multiplayer, with occasional dips reported by FRAPS into the teens)

A6-5400K with its stronger single thread (Team Fortress 2 under Windows is only a three thread game) and larger 192 VLIW4 stream processor with higher bandwidth (single channel DDR3 1866 with this combo vs. single channel DDR3 1600 at best for Athlon 5350) should do noticeably better.

ram by itself is $43 at the egg, so not much more for a processor and board

very nice for a steam streaming box

IMO you are a snob. Great deal.

How does the A6-5400k stack up against an overclocked pentium G3258?

The 5400K should be around half the power of the G3258.
Tom's did a review recently with a G3258 vs an Athlon 750K and they liked the G3258 a bit better for gaming. The 750k has two modules and this 5400k has only one, so that's why I say half. Link: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pentium-g3258-b81-cheap-overclocking,3888.html

edit: This is a great deal for a basic computer though since you are getting the ram as well.
